Great place to stay
This is a great place to stay but not in the center of town. Situated in and part of the university it is around a 25min walk to the old town. The frequent 30 and 33 bus takes 5 mins to town and leaves right near the hotel £1.80 each way. The breakfast is excellent. The building itself is beautiful and the rooms have recently been remodeled and are very comfortable. There is no bar but a lovely sitting room with drinks available. Would stay here again. Maintenance needs to revisit the recently renovated rooms and tighten loose fixturesand adjust doors so they latch.

Unfortunately sad stay
I wanted to really like this hotel but unfortunately I think it fell short on so many levels. I arrived late due to driving up from Nottingham and I think on this occasion part of that worked in my favour as the car park was full of shipping containers and few spaces but lucky for me being late I found a space . The building itself is stunning outside. But I feel this is where I have to say it ended for me. There was no served bar it was a help yourself honesty bar in a rather dark unwelcoming room which in fairness after a long drive I really couldn’t be bothered with. My room was a deluxe double with pretty much one light and then two lamps which gave it that moody artist feel however it was rather dark and again not the most welcoming . There was also a loft hatch above my bed with a light on all night which was horrendous when trying to sleep and a really loud extraction fan noise coming from it . Not to mention the howling students up until silly o’clock in the morning . So my long drive to relaxation became a rather hellish stay with not much sleep.

Warm and welcoming stay for New Year
The hotel is warm, traditional and comfortable. Our chosen room sadly flooded the night before we arrived but the staff were more than attentive in offering us an alternative and refunding the difference. The breakfast was superb also. The location is a little outside the old town but if you don’t mind a mile walk it’s no problem at all
