Good location but the bathroom, not clean
I stayed three nights at this hotel with my sister. The duvet covers were all crinkly but we were assured that they were clean. We had all properly ironed duvet covers even at a guest house in Iceland so I 'm not sure how they think that it is okay. Anyhow, it did look clean. However, the problem was the state of the bathroom. The toilet seat has not been cleaned properly as we were horrified to find drops of ...which I do not wish to describe (but took photos just in case they try to deny it). I complained and the person at the reception came over and offered to clean it whilst we went out to have a dinner. She did not call the cleaner and offered to clean it herself which again made me concerned as she did not have any cleaning material. How did she clean? With water and toilet paper? It was not a dust but...again, I am not going to describe the nature of the spots. We, therefore, got some toilet seat wipers later to clean the toilet seat ourselves. We wanted to move the room but they said, it was not possible unless we pay an extra to upgrade. I later also found that there were hairs on the shower wall and hairs and dust on the bathroom wall around the hairdryer. There was a mixture of friendly and not so friendly member of staff at the reception. The location is good and it is a very busy hotel. Hence, perhaps this poor level of hygiene is expected? Hmmm...I don't know and I do not have any intention of going back to this hotel.

Convenient central location
The location of this hotel seems to be the heart of the city. It was within a 10 minute walk of the Harpa Center and the Old Harbor. The Main Street of the town, with all of the shopping and restaurants, starts right outside the front door. The hotel staff are helpful. They have a little bar in the lobby with happy hour daily; the bar area is within a larger lounge area which has a cosy faux fireplace. The Flybus pickup for the trip back to the airport is just a short walk around the corner. The room was small but adequate. During my stay the temps were in the 50s; hot water radiators in the rooms worked very well when needed, but most of the time they were not. Breakfast is included. This is quick and easy; there is a large buffet in the basement and is well staffed. Right outside the hotel is a courtyard with a large screen where soccer games are shown daily. This can get a little noisy at times when there is something of interest occurring in a game ( my room faced this courtyard). If the windows were open there was a lot of noise from the people milling about outside. With the windows closed it was quite enough. Taking a shower was tricky. One of the walls of the shower was a glass partition, which did not go all of the way to the floor, and the back side of the shower was open to the room. Therefore, even when using the lowest water pressure possible, most of the bathroom floor got wet and had to be squeegied afterwards.

Great location in the city center of Reykjavik.
My second stay at the CenterHotel Plaza. My first time was in March 2013. They did some remodeling since then which reduced the size of the rooms and eliminated three quarters of the food offerings of the Breakfast buffet. This time we had a "superior" twin room. According to their description "superior" rooms have a view. So, anyway, after arriving quite early (8:30 am local time), we paid the early check in fee of 30 Euro and were given a "Superior" room which overlooked a sheltered walkway and was a little bigger than a postage stamp. I told them I needed a bigger room and also told them there was no "view." One of the young women from the Reception Desk escorted me to show me the "superior" rooms that were available for early check in. We selected Room 303 which has a sensational view overlooking Ingólfur Square and a tub shower in the roomy bathroom. Perfect! We spent our unwinding time after our activities sitting in our room, looking out at the people coming and going in the square. The breakfast was more than adequate with hot and cold cereals, yogurts, fresh fruits, boiled and scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, several types of bread and rolls, etc., etc., etc. There is also a bar in the lobby. The staff were very pleasant and happy to do whatever they can to make their guests happy. There are many restaurants, a bank, bars, a souvenir store, convenience store less than a block away & a Tourist Information nearby. Heaven in Iceland.

CenterHotel Plaza stay July 10-15, 2017
My daughter, granddaughter and I stayed for 5 days. We had 2 rooms and they made an effort to put us close to each other and on the same floor. Everything was just terrific based on a 4 star level of expectation. The staff was very kind and helpful, lovely young people. Breakfast is delicious and a total mob scene each morning with the breakfast team trying their best to keep up with demand and doing a good job. Having the breakfast included in the hotel most likely saved us at least $60 a day. Tip: go down at 6:45 and get the best tables. The whole place is very clean which is always reassuring. Another tip: don't go there before 2 and expect to get into your room early. They give their cleaning staff the full time to do the job right. Fabulous restaurants literally a stone's throw from the front door. The last one we ate at was to the left, across the street, just as you walk out the door looks like "just a bar serving food" but the dinner we had there was one of the best we had....we were very surprised at the quality and eat there first!

Exceptional 10.0
Nice stay in the middle of the city.
This was our first time visiting Iceland. We chose this hotel based on tbe reviews, and we weren’t disappointed. Check in was quick and easy. Staff is very friendly and helpful. This hotel is located right in the center of the city and is surrounded by many shops, restaurants and small cart style eateries. Public transportation is basically non existant so make sure you either have a car or arrange transportation ahead of time. Iceland is very expensive especially food and restaurants. There is no McDonalds, Burger King or Pizza Hut anywhere. The hot breakfast buffet was good with plenty of choices. There is a skate boarding area in front of the hotel so based on the reviews we requested a room in a quite area. It was indeed quiet but as this is an older hotel you will hear other guests walking and moving around in the room right on top of yours. Room was small but clean. Beds were comfortable. Our only complaint was the foul smell from the hot water. When we told the front desk we were informed that this is normal due to the sulphur added, and we were given an air freshener. Overall we had a nice stay at this hotel and would recommend it if you’re looking to be right in the middle of everything.
