Centrally located fashionable hostel
We stayed at Generator London as a family of 3 for 5 nights. Upon arrival, we were given a room on the 3rd floor, at one end of the building at the end of a long corridor, with about a hundred fire doors to go through to reach. We then asked for a room which was easier to access and nearer to the toilets and showers, and the receptionist was kind enough to give us another room, approximately the same size but at a much better location. All in all, the room was too small to accommodate 3 people, with barely any space to move around, but it was clean and quiet, and the beds were comfortable. As I have often stayed at Generator Stockholm, I somehow expected the same standards concerning the bunk beds, with a separate night lamp and electric outlet by the head of each bed. We were disappointed to see that that was not the case. The toilets and the showers were also clean and not busy, which was great. Breakfast was okay, but it could have been better with a small selection of healthier alternatives (i.e. fibre-rich bread), and the room they served it in was a bit too small. Coffee was not the best, but I guess that's kind of normal in a tea culture. SUMMARY: Great location for an affordable price, clean and safe but you should pick your room wisely and not expect too much. After all, this is a hostel. PS. The interior made a very good impression on our ten-year-old kid. :-)

Not a pleasant experience
The lift was out of order and we got no pillowcases in our room. We told the reception but they did not offer us any pillowcases during our stay for six nights. It was very noisy and the interior of the room was very hot. You can hear the staff shouting "house keeping" after 23:00 in the corridor.

Good enough
Only downside was the heat in the room. There was no air.

A disappointing Generator Experience
The London Generator seems to be hidden off the beat and track. My experience of other Generator Hotels is that they are very easy to locate. This one not so much. There are only four plug sockets located in the room between 8 of us. How are we expected to charge our devices. Even more so that if I want to leave my phone on charge I have to leave it near to the door whilst I slept. It doesn't have individual charging points/lighting on the beds so it you're up early or going to bed late is all or nothing with the lighting. The room I was in only seems to be serviced by a single toilet at that side of the building for many of us to use. The showers are the other side of the building and very limited in space. There is only a curtain for privacy on each shower unit and no room to change privately. The side boards on the beds, used to show bed numbers and provide some privacy were missing on 3 of the 4 beds. One of which is propped against the wall. Very much gives an impression of disrepair. I've stayed in other Generator Hostels and this one isn't the level of experience that I am used to sadly. Reception did try to contact me after I rated my check in with as disappointing and whilst I gave them the above feedback there was no further follow up from them regarding the same.

good value for money in great location
I sort of knew what I was getting into and was mostly worried about noise - doors slamming proved to be the only problem, I didn't have any groups of youngsters partying next to me, thank goodness. The room is surprisingly comfy, and really has everything you need for a stopover. But bring earplugs!
