Not what it was
I came to this site beacuse I'd had a great experience there 30 years ago. This is a sweet place in a lovely location, but it is run down (plumbing, lighting and bedding needed work, paint was chipping, floorboards had holes which made the "decoration" on the stairs of dozens of cut out paper mice rather off-putting). The room reeked of too many heavily perfumed cleaning and laundry products. Service was friendly. Food was OK, but this place was once a gastro destination. It was OK, but a bit disappointing. That said, the price wasn't terrible and the location was fine.

Bed and breakfast
We checked in late but called. The key was left on the desk for us. The room was small and on the front next to the road. Very loud traffic! Breakfast was great.

A pleasant respite near Mt. Monadnock
The Monadnock Inn is a pleasant respite; quaint, historic, and charming came to mind as we wound our way through stairwells and hallways to Kelley's room on the 3rd floor. Our room contained 2 double beds and was cozy but comfortable, the bathroom was spacious and clean, and television and Wi-Fi worked well. Despite 2 fans, the room was a bit warm (warm and muggy day), but as we were exhausted from the Mt hike we had only a little trouble getting to sleep. A storm blew through the night and cooled things off to bring in fresh New England air. Best things - An accommodating staff that supplied delicious blueberry pancakes to overslept guests, as well as Thorndyke's restaurant on premises. Turnoff - late sleepers in rooms in the front of the inn are exposed to morning (local) traffic.
