Lovely inn, close to Mt. Monadnock
The inn itself is lovely and the decoration of the Jerry room was quite nice. However, the house needs some renovation (for instance, the mirror in our room was hanging rather precariously on a string from the lamp...). The service was also a bit slow: we waited some time for someone to come to open the front door, and breakfast took over twenty minutes to get to the table. Also, it is too bad that the restaurant and pub are closed on Mondays, since there aren't many other food options in the area. The main advantages were the proximity to Mt. Monadnock and the fair price.

We stayed just overnight since we were driving our daughter to a school orientation nearby. The Monadnock Inn is charming and the staff (Sandy, I believe) was friendly, helpful, and very accommodating. We had terrific pancakes for breakfast, with maple syrup tapped from the Inn's trees. Very New England.

Charming inn
The Inn was vert confortable. Being an historic building, The roms are of course smaller but the inn is really full of charm. We really enjoyed the beautiful bathroom (lavender perfumed) and the huge breakfasts!

A Charming Stay at an Authentic New England Inn
On a Foliage tour through New England in October, my wife and I stayed at The Monadnock Inn following a hike of the nearby Mt. Monadnock. Arrival mid-week was simple and the Inn is full of centuries-old charm and comfort. Check-in was very simple and we were handed a key and walked up the stairs to the 3rd Floor Pauline Room. The room was very cozy with an antique soak tub and shower (great after a long hike), beautiful bay windows, steam radiator, comfortable bed, and warmly lit. There was no TV in the room which really adds to the ambiance and it felt like it was a place that Thoreau or Emerson would have frequented in the 19th Century. We had dinner in the Pub which was good and it was pleasant chatting with the owner and staff and over-hearing other local diners' discussions about simple life in the surrounding towns. This is not a faux-historical inn with spa and morning hot yoga or other unnecessary modern amenities. Wi-Fi was really the only modern perk and adequate to stream if you wanted to in your room. If you're looking for an authentic small town New England Inn experience, this is a great place to stay.

If you are looking for a flat screen TV, lots of wireless access, and a huge room with AC, this is not the place for you! However, if you are looking for charm, ambience, and a wonderful staff, you have found it! The Inn dates from the early 18 hundreds, and shows evidence of the style and architecture of that period. We enjoyed both dinner in the screened-in porch (from the fresh PEI mussels to the yummy crème bruelle) and the hot breakfast served in the lovely dining room. Would definitely stay here again!
