Small but clean, friendly and good value
Stressful check in as originally told our room wasn’t available but it got sorted eventually. Overall, although it’s small in every respect (like most hotels in Manhattan to be fair) we had a good stay and would recommend it. Breakfast choices were decent, staff friendly/helpful, handy location near Times Square and room was very clean. Good price, no extra charges as we booked via Hotels.com, and a bonus that breakfast was included.

Value for money
We arrived at 3am from a long flight so complimentary water would have been highly appreciated. I also wasn't impressed with the airport shuttle/ concierge service. A regular cab would do you better. The twin room is also really cramped. Luckily, we got upgraded to a King room. Also, don't expect any great views. Besides those, every other thing was fantastic. Breakfast was nice and fresh and everyone was generally nice.

Small and needs maintenance: better options nearby
The front desk staff were friendly and efficient, but this was the most positive aspect of the stay. My room was small (even by NYC standard, especially at this price point), and the biggest issue relates to several maintenance problems. A minor issue was that my door lock was temperamental (not worth complaining about). An annoyance was the elevator issues (see the other reviews), with buttons not working, random stopping on floors, and long waits -- I mentioned this to staff, but this seemed like an acknowledged issue. The big problem for me was my heater getting stuck on. I managed to correct it one time (simply by waiting it out), but the second time I had to complain twice to staff to get it fixed. I had to leave the room, as it was too hot, and upon my return the heater had been fixed, but the maintenance person had left my door ajar. Nothing was taken from my room, but this was potentially a large issue. As per the title of my review, there are better options nearby. As a regular to NYC, I've stayed in nearly all the Hamptons in Midtown, and they are all much better than this one (Hampton North is my favourite)

Lifts under constant maintenance - avoid!
Hotel staff pleasant and friendly but this property needs to be closed for renovation, only 2 lifts for 32 floors and both were malfunctioning constantly during our week+ long stay, in addition to a boiler issue meaning no running water for 24hrs without warning. This is a Hilton brand hotel and is not befitting of the name. I was up on the 32nd floor with a toddler/stroller and had to call down to the front desk for them to send up a lift manually, if they were working at all - other times we would be stuck up there for hours. No offer of compensation or discount 'management are aware' frankly not fit for purpose. Clearly the elevators are on their last legs and they don't want to shut down for Xweeks to replace/renovate them properly.

Enjoyable stay
Enjoyed our stay at the Hampton Inn. The hotel is spotlessly clean, staff are so hard working. The only complaint is that we were not told about a $60 deposit per night, refundable 3-5 working days after checking out - may be this should be made clear when booking.

Nice after cruise city break
Very friendly welcoming staff, good location handy for transport. They provide a sufficient hot breakfast which is convenient and time saving in the morning and 24 hour coffee with the odd cookie in the lobby is a great bonus. Good value for money.
