Romantic get away, room 18, I don’t think so!
Hotel itself was lovely upon arrival and easy to find in a great location. However upon checking in we were not given any information regarding the hotel and facilities although other guests checking in were and the receptionist seemed in a rush to get us out of the way so straight away felt a little like an inconvenience but thought we’ll just read the book in the room to find out what we need to know. The receptionist also commented at the time oooo your lucky you have no stairs which at the time We didn’t quite understand what she meant. When we got to our room we were initially very impressed with the cleanliness and decor but I felt extremely let down that we had been given a disabled room (we are a young couple and this was a surprise booking for my partners 29th birthday which was supposed to be romantic and relaxing) didn’t book a disabled room and felt it was totally unnecessary to be booked into one. I ran a bath to relax and unwind after our journey and had to wait 1 1/2 hours for it to cool as cold water tap on the bath didn’t work at all. So had to use the disabled wet room for the rest of the holiday that just soaked everything toilet, toilet rolls etc. Not pleasant or relaxing. I would’ve spoken to someone at the hotel but my partner didn’t want me to be upset as it is very rare for us to get quality time together away from our work. Wouldn’t book again unfortunately which is a great shame.

Ok
Left disappointed after a night away here. Been looking forward to it for months for my birthday night away with my boyfriend, paid £180 for the night for the Caldecott cottage. We arrived to a receptionist who wasn't very welcoming and told us we couldn't check in yet, we were only 15 minutes early. He said we could drop our bags but didn't offer us a seat in the bar whilst we waited or said he'd run up and check how much longer like you'd expect. The room however was lovely, very clean and had everything we needed and expected. Later on, I attempted to use the hair dryer which sparked on me and stopped working. Rang down asking for a new one and was told they would be straight up...40 minutes later, nothing. So went down asking this time to have one 2 minutes later. The meal we had was lovely, the girls in the restaurant were friendly and attentive and interested in our evening. Yet in the morning, when we came down for breakfast, we didn't feel welcome. Felt a bit out of place and awkward getting breakfast and we asked at the desk was it included in our bedroom the continental and they said of course, however I'm left feeling like I'm going to get a charge to my card for just a few bowls of cereal & some toast. So over all, a bit upset I spent so much for this night away for a special birthday only to be let down.

Pricey and a little quirky
Oddfellows is a different place to stay in Chester and one that has to be experienced. The rooms are a little of the small size with a glass shower that sticks out into the room creating the divide between the wash area and sleeping. The prices for the mini bar are not displayed and by the labels on the drawers it does suggest that maybe the items within are free - which they are not. The breakfast "on the go" which is included in the already high nightly price is just a joke. One cold croissant, yoghurt, orange juice and an apple! Enjoy!! It would have been better to have had a chocolate croissant as a plain one is rather dry on its own. For a full English breakfast (@£13.95) you got to chose from the normal selection but if not all items were chosen then no additional items were on your plate. You get 1 sausage, 1 rasher of bacon, 1 mushroom, 1 egg, 1 tomato, 1 black pudding, 1 bowl of beans. If you wanted just sausage and egg then its 1 sausage and 1 egg not even 2 of each. The continental breakfast was also very limited. Overall not a bad hotel, certainly a busy social place with the great courtyard but then also not cheap.

Fair 4.0
We chose to stay at Oddfellows because of its central location and rave customer reviews. Unfortunately we were very disappointed in the hotel service & room. We booked the luxury loft for one night as an anniversary present for ourself. Please be warned the room is much smaller than in the images and has a jagged ceiling so you’ll probably be bumping your head several times during your stay. Additionally something you definitely can’t tell from the images is that you can hear everything going on in your neighbors room and the loud music that is coming from the hotel (function room/ restaurant). When it comes to the services we experienced a miscommunication from the check in staff that resulted in an extremely stressful evening. We also were informed by the hotel manager that evening that as compensation for the hiccup we would be getting a refund for the late check out fee. However upon check out the receptionist denied the request saying that it’s not within their policy and that they needed to reconfirm with the evening manager. Clearly there is no communication between the staff members and what you may be told in the morning is not necessarily true in the evening. Chester is a beautiful city, save your money and stay somewhere that can give you the service you pay for.

Very disappointing.
We arrived at the hotel after long train journeys in the pouring rain, lugged our bags up some very steep stairs to check-in only to be told that our room was an "8 - 10" minute walk away! No lift or any form of assistance was offered. Before heading off to our room, we advised the reception staff (there were three of them standing there) that we were hungry and asked if the restaurant was open and whether they had any availability. The reception staff advised that they didn't know and that we would have to go and check with the restaurant staff... We didn't! We had to carry our bags back down the stairs and down the street in the rain. More steps when we arrived at the "apartment" which was cold and rather unwelcoming. There were dinner and breakfast menus in the apartment but when we called reception to make an order, we were advised that we had to walk up to the main hotel. Oddfellows market themselves as a 5 star hotel... They are a 3 at best. We stayed for 2 nights and received zero service.
