The hotel is located centrally in the old town of Edinburgh, which made it the perfect spot for the places I wanted to shop and see. It's only a few minutes walk to the castle, shopping and restaurants/cafes. If you are travelling by train with luggage, you'll want to grab a cab or call an Uber because it's all uphill.
I found the staff were very friendly and accommodating.
My Junior Suite was very pretty, with 12 foot ceilings, but no view. I kept the curtains closed as people on the street could see in. It also had no heat. This was problematic given that the temperatures were in the negative. I asked for, and received, a space heater...however, if was more of a radiator on wheels and would have taken days to heat that space, if not weeks. This made it very difficult to relax and enjoy the room. There was a heated towel rack in the bathroom, which would have been an amazing feature, but it didn't turn on even once during my stay. The tub/shower practically requires a ladder to get into, but the water pressure was great!
Additionally, there wasn't a great place for doing my makeup and hair in the morning, as the bathroom didn't have a fan and steamed up. There was a desk, but with no lighting (not even a lamp), so it's possible that I may have left the hotel looking like a cheap hooker...but to Scotland's credit, no one mentioned it.
All in all, while I think that the hotel was a really great option, I don't think I would stay there again during the winter months.
