Would definitely stay again
Very pleasant and helpful staff. Ideal central location in Wantage. Good breakfast choice and quality. Room quite small but perfectly adequate, bathroom ditto. Would definitely stay at The Bear Hotel again.

A cosy pre-Christmas break.
A very pleasant stay in a lovely old hotel. Food very good and service too. The only drawback was our room was a tad too warm, even after turning the heating off. Overall I would recommend The Bear very much as it provided a very nice post-Christmas break.

Night in wantage
Beautiful old building, but very clean and welcoming. Lovely staff and the breakfast was superb

We only had one night booked for visiting family in the area. The hotel was traditional old coach house style and the rooms were what you expect, and I really enjoyed our short stay.

Could be better.
There is limited choice to stay in Wantage and I have fond memories of eating in the Bear when I was younger, so booked in. The room was simply decorated (you could definitely lose the black and white ballet dancer picture in room makes the room look cheap). Bed was reasonably comfortable. No glasses for water and cheap toiletries. Shower was beyond terrible...I got wetter in the rain. Temperature was either boiling or cold. Not asked how our stay was when we left. Breakfast was okay, but the layout looked bleak. Overall it’s okay and location is great - but it wouldn’t take much to really lift this hotel. It’s let down by the lack of finesse, especially in such a lovely building.

Fair 4.0
not the best hotel in the area
I was full of expectation. the hotel looked nice from the outside and is in a nice area. Unfortunately the rooms were tiny, dated, dirty and lacked basic amenities in the bathrooms. The beds were uncomfortable and rooms are badly ventilated. The breakfast was sub par. on a positive note the staff were helpful and polite.

Reasonable hotel. Good location
Ok stay. Old coaching inn in market square close to pubs and restaurants. Tired building but clean and welcoming
