Had a brilliants night stay. This is the 3rd year in a row we’ve stayed at the hotel. Had an amazing large room at the back and we slept like logs in our huge comfy bed. The hotel is a great base for Cockermouth town centre.

We just stayed for the night and the room was lovely, it was nice and clean and thankfully pet friendly! The staff were lovely and really helpful and we had food at the connected steakhouse which was great. Would stay again if visiting the area

Excellent value for money. The room was clean and really comfortable bed. Tea and coffee available in the room. Central location in the center of Cockermouth.

4/10 Fair

The place was nicely decorated and clean. However I did not sleep as the mattress was terrible. Felt like I was falling out of bed all night. The springs on the left hand side were totally shot and the mattress just bent. It’s an old building so lots of creaks but that’s ok. You can hear a pin drop re other guests which wasn’t ideal at 07:00. Great location.

Lovely old hotel with helpful staff. Wonderful beds, quiet. Restaurant serves hearty food.

8/10 Very good

Friendly check in and staff, lovely large room with nice shower, a little dated but perfectly adequate for one night, duvet hard, parking available in car park opposite, small bar area with adjoining restaurant, (although we ate elsewhere), no breakfast available on site so we are elsewhere.

4/10 Fair

Staff were great and friendly however, the toilet wouldn’t flush, the room was damp which left our clothes damp, could hear every movement in the room above and next to us. We paid for the same room as our parents but they got a much bigger room with better facilities and the rooms were nothing like the picture.

Lovely, spacious family room. It was very clean and spotless. Tea and coffee making facilities and biscuits. Really friendly and helpful receptionist.

10/10 Exceptional

Perfect location right in the centre of town. Very clean and recently renovated room and modern bathroom. Bottled water tea and coffee provided in room. Decent in house bar and restaurant but no breakfast provided. Good WiFi but no free parking .. paid parking 1 min walk opposite. Good value for money.

8/10 Very good

Clean and spacious room with everything we needed for an overnight stay. Plentiful soft towels and nice toiletries in the bathroom. Very welcoming receptionist who gave us all the info we needed. The room belied the impression given by the filthy hotel stair carpet although the good news is a carpet fitter was actually at work replacing this on the upper floors when we arrived. We were at the back of the hotel which was quiet so didn’t experience any pavement noise which I’m guessing could have been a problem at the front. Parking was at a premium in the public car parks opposite, we were lucky enough to find a space and the charges were reasonable, probably isn’t an issue out of season. The hotel has an adjoining steak house which is convenient unless you’re a vegetarian. If you want something different it is surprisingly difficult to find anying that you couldn’t find in a shopping precinct in any town. The rooms are perfectly good for a short stay.

8/10 Very good

The hotel is a comfortable one, with friendly and helpful staff. My room had all the usual amenities. I have stayed before, when a major plus was a very good breakfast using local produce. It was therefore disappointing to discover that the hotel no longer does breakfast at all.
Verified review

6/10 Good

The staff was great. The price was good. A consistent problem was the shower. First, the narrow semi circular units are too small. Second, the water pressure and temperature wouldn’t stay consistent. It’s a dated property. But overall, the price, location, and staff were great.

10/10 Exceptional

The staff were very helpfull. The person on reception carried my case up for me. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The only problem I had was that I have leg problems and there is no lift. Because the hotel is 300 years old there is no way a loft could be installed. I'm glad I stayed there.
