Volcano Forest Inn
We decided to stay in Volcano to be able to see the glow at night. We certainly achieved that and it was superb. Sadly it rained heavily throughout our stay which took the edge off things. The inn is really a bed and breakfast - traditional and rather dated appearance up an unmade track in the forest. Would be very difficult to find after dark. . Dan, the manager, made a good simple breakfast (if you like pancakes!) but the house rules eg remove shoes at the front door, whilst understandable, are a little odd. The whole place seemed out of time and dated and for many could even be seen as forbidding. Overall - unless you wish to pay a lot more - it is probably one of the better options in a small out of the way location - but if you want to see the volcano glow at night it is ideal.

Our stay at volcano forest inn was good. The folks running the inn were nice, breakfast was good (not a lot of food, but what they gave was hearty) and the room was spacious. The area is small town quaint with a few local restaurants and really close to the volcano. You are about 40 minutes from Hilo Airport. There is a lot of rain in the area and there is a dampness in the room that might have gotten on the bath towels and sheets. This might be prevalent in any B&B in the area because of all the rain. Not sure since this was our first time staying in the area (both Hilo and Volcano).

Volcano Forest Inn
Good location to the NP
Location is perfect for volcano NP if it did not close because of the eruption. Bed room was huge and everything you need is there. Very quite as the place is very secluded, slept like a baby although there were a small quake that Dan told us about the next morning. Will definitely stay again when the NP re-open
