Great price and location, but very small rooms
Hotel is great value, and is about as cheap as it gets in Manhattan. Location is excellent. So, I was pleased overall; however it would be wrong not to point out that the cabin rooms are EXTREMELY small and the layout makes it almost impossible to clean behind the beds - as a result, there appeared to be years worth of dust / dirt behind our bunk bed. Bathroom areas were kept clean though and were perfectly functional. I'd stay again (because the price is so good), but be aware that There's a reason it is so affordable.

A great location. The West Village is a really nice area with plenty of small places to eat, and a few decent bars too. It's about a 10min walk to the nearest Subway station at 14th & 8th. The hotel itself has a shared bathroom on each floor, which I never really got used to. I'm not sure of the greeting etiquette whilst wearing bathrobes at the crack of dawn, so it seemed silence was the order of the day. The showers were great though. The water was hot enough to remove ones skin, and plenty of it too. The corridors themselves have a slight whiff of old stale cigarette smoke, probably a relic of the pre-smoking ban, with carpets vacuumed to within an inch of their lives by the look of them. Our room was slightly smaller than the 'sweat box' in which Steve McQueen found himself imprisoned in The Great Escape, which I didn't mind, but the under-shelf radiator kept at a constant 100 degrees, was something the very noisy air-con struggled to over-come. Take ear plugs to keep cool! It sounds like I'm moaning, but I'm not, it was a great place to stay, and I'd go back if I return to New York. For the price in Manhattan, I consider myself very lucky.

Exceptional 10.0
Had a totally amazing stay at The Jane. A totally unique hotel with amazing facilities. The rooms are a little unusual and I was slightly daunted by the prospect of shared bathrooms, which I haven’t braved since backpacking when I was younger, but it was such an amazing place to stay! The hotel is infused with history and it was amazing to stay next to some of the residents who still rent rooms from before it was converted into a hotel (looks for the different coloured doors) I was lucky enough to meet one of them and they were lovely! The rooms have everything you need and are ingeniously designed, plus the complimentary bathrobes and towels were a really nice touch. The bathrooms are sparklingly clean and I didn’t have to queue once. Definitely try to make it up to the rooftop it’s an amazing way to spend an evening Will definitely be returning!

ok hotel
Quick check in, convenient and nice area, room ok and clean, Wi-fi very poor in room but good in lobby. Water pressure can be hit or miss depending on which shower or sink you use. Hotel is clean and ok for price.

Checked in after midnight & given deplorable room 411; bed too small for 5’6 » woman, rank odours in hallway and room. However asked for change of room next morning and was sheepishly upgraded to Captain’’s Room with private bath. If one books such a room or even a shared bath room but not room 411 an excellent hotel stay for this concept.

Wonderful hotel, lovely old fashioned feel. We stayed in one of the captains cabins, great bed, bathroom. We ate at the restaurant and had breakfast takeout too. Food was great. And cocktails on the roof were great too

Great location and hotel is clean. Could have had extra shared bathrooms but they were clean and only one night stay so was not a concern.
