Room not as advertised
We were in a box room which had a slanted floor, much smaller than anything we seen advertised. The air conditioning was extremely noisy and we had to shout to here each other speak. We made sure to spend as little time at the hotel as possible during our visit to Montreal.

Really meant for younger shoestring budget tourist
The hotel is really meant for the budget, no-frills, young crowd. As a 20 year old on a gap year, this would be a perfectly suited hotel. As 40-ish guy just wanting to do a little solo R&R exploring Canada, it was too low down the scale for me. I didn't dig the neighbourhood. It's in Quartier de Spectaculaires where cheap fast food, a couple of live venues and a grungy crowd hang out. Godsmack were playing down the street. So again, very central for a party going youngin', not really for me. That said, it is right next to Saint Laurent metro station. The the lack of a security safe in the room really bugged me. So I locked everything in my one luggage case. Security is very important to me and that was a big mark against the hotel. The complimentary breakfast was limited to breads, cakes, pastry and hard boiled eggs. Calling it "Continental" was misleading and laughable. The shared shower was fine though the design was puzzling. It was a massive room but it picked the tiniest shower cubicle design in the world. The soap dispenser was empty but you do get soap bars in the room. The staff were friendly and helpful though and could provide some basic directions but limited on knowledge about where to eat. That said, the girl at the counter sent me to the wrong metro station to get to the train station. You need to alight at Bonaventure, not Square-Victoria.

Would stay again.
Excellent location. Very nice staff, they can't do enough for you! I got a last minute deal and after my experiment I feel that i should have paid more to get anywhere near the value they delivered. The room was clean. Even though the bathroom was shared it was cleaned constantly. I didn't have the breakfast so sadly can not comment on that. When you come out the front door of this hotel if you turn left and walk straight it's the French sector. Turn right and it's more English focused. There gay district is left but is not as impressive as that of Toronto. If I went to Montreal again I would stay here. Perfectly located for everything. Thanks for a great 2 nights.

ugly outside, beautiful inside
I booked this for its central location and practical price. When I arrived I was dismayed at the exterior of the building and seedy businesses on ground floor, but when I went up the stairs to the hotel itself I found it was beautiful and spotlessly clean, and really comfortable. Don't be scared by the outside appearance.

No sleep on Ste-Catherine!
Room with view on Ste-Catherine and St-Laurent during Just for laughs festival, noisy until at least 2h30 AM. Even the noisy air conditioning was not enough to cover all this noise. Did not sleep much. Chose this hotel because of location (I live in Montreal suburbs and had to be on St-Urbain and Viger at 5h15 AM next day with my daughter) and also for price. Definitely not a hotel for family but mainly for young partying tourists (I met some drunk ones on my way out the hotel around 4h30). Room and bed extremely small. Reception on first floor and room on second with no elevator; just so people know ahead of time. Also: shared bathroom but one of them was out of order!
