Usual Chain Hotel
The hotel is fine. Lighting is very poor for your make-up ladies! Take your own mirror and light, because the mirror is too far away from natural light. It’s an old building, so there aren’t that many electrical sockets either. My biggest issue would be that I had to ask for toilet roll at reception, as there was only a half roll on our arrival. There was also only one tissue in the tissue box! Because of Covid, there are no kettles in rooms. They tell you to ask for tea/coffee at reception, but you have to wait ages as it’s busy with people checking in, and the only tea they had was earl gray (do most Scottish people not just drink builder’s tea?) Surely it would be better just to provide an urn, teabags etc to let people make it themselves. There is no air con in the rooms and they are too hot. Plus, we asked for a double room and for a twin. Just the usual budget chain hotel.

Uncomfortable beds and pillows
Hotel was set up for social distancing from the moment you walked through the door. Patrons produced their own card keys which seemed strange as everyone now touches the pile of cards rather than the 1 or 2 receptionists. A small gift box with POE was given to each person. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was minimalist, but clean. Bed was hard but a severe lack of decent pillows didn’t prove for a good nights sleep. One pillow each which was wafer thin, even rolling it provided no comfort at all. However next day the staff gave us 2 extra pillows which were nice and plump. Breakfast was poor: one bag with a croissant, a piece of fruit and a carton of juice. We had a black, split rotting banana which had leaked all over the croissant: yummy! Tea and coffee wasn’t available in the room due to COVID restrictions, but free of charge at reception.

Enjoyed our overnight stay. Staff were helpful and friendly, hotel and room were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was great. We were only sorry that were in a bit of a rush before leaving and forgot to leave a wee something for the room staff.
