Fabulous 8.6 From 287 reviews

Very good 8.0
Nice, quiet place in London
Good hotel. Nice location. Very quiet rooms. The layout is interesting, but not practical, and after a week staying here, the novelty wore off a bit. I knew ahead of time from other reviews that there was very little drawer space, but I had hoped for more hangers. Another room had a few more, but mine only had 3. And only 2 were usable, since the 3rd had to hang behind the ironing board. The desk had a set of drawers that had limited access. There are no hookups for device charging, so make sure to bring a plug and an adapter if necessary. The restaurant is nice. I recommend getting breakfast included. If you eat other meals there, you get a 15% discount as a guest of the hotel. I indulged in their afternoon tea and it was delicious. I liked their Greek salad, among other things, but wished the stems were cut from the baby greens (or the salad chopped up) as I could not cut them off with my knife and it made for a humorously challenging meal. The hotel is situated along a street of restaurants, so there's plenty to choose from. There's also a cinema next door and a bar, which is good for those who want a drink, as the hotel does not serve liquor. The nearest underground stations are London Bridge and Borough. Both are roughly 10 minutes walk, shorter if you use a faster pace. You're also near Tower Bridge.

Better choices available for the price
This should be a great hotel but there were some problems with our visit. Check-in is a little chaotic - not enough space and unclear what you are paying for. One of the hotel's hot water heaters was broken and there was a shortage of hot water for showers. We were lucky as we were up early so only had to jump out of the shower once when the water went cold. I was surprised that no offers were made for a free breakfast or a reduced price stay as hot water seems to me to be an essential for a quality hotel. I was also unimpressed with the level of service. My wife is recovering from a broken ankle and therefore we requested a non-slip mat for the shower. I was told none was available and, when I asked if one could be obtained, that they would not be buying one. That's not good when you are staying several nights and spending several hundred pounds. A shower mat costs about £5 and is something every hotel should have. Good things were the lounge area, an interesting room design, and good views over Bermondsey Square. With better customer service and reliable systems this would be a good hotel to stay.

Good hotel if you are on a budget
Hotel is cute and boho. Easy access to two different tube stops with multiple bus routes as well nearby. Rooms are clean and good size. The drench shower is fantastic, honestly my favorite part of hotel. This is a DRY hotel so no alcohol, not a big deal but just so you are aware. A few complaints overall: Food service times are not great. They say available till 11pm, we came in late one night at 10:30 and was told kitchen was closed. The advertised 'Night' delivery service for local places to deliver to your room is horrible, do not utilize! We ended up with 20% of our order and full charge, needed to call and complain to get refund. Beds are HARD. If you have a bad back, do not stay at this hotel. Last complaint was reception, while they were nice when you were in person they never answer the phone. We called 3 or 4 times over course of 10 day stay and nobody ever answered the phone, we ended up having to go down from our 5th floor room to the front desk. Many a time we had folks who didn't understand us, which i get they were non english speaking but for a hotel reception that is kind of an issue. While happy with the overall stay, unless we are budget tight i would not stay here again.

Exceptional 10.0
Quiet Location Close to Attractions & the Tube.
The hotel was clean and comfortable. The bathroom towel rack was heated and the mirror had a heated center that kept it clear even after a steamy shower. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel restaurant was good, but there were many excellent small restaurants, pastry shops and pubs close by. A small grocery store was right across from the hotel so it was easy to pick up cheap snacks and a drink before going on an walk for the day. The London Bridge and Bermondsey Tube stations are about a 15 minute walk or less from the hotel and once on the London Tube you can get anywhere. Tower Bridge and the Tower of London are easy to walk to. Our room had a beautiful view of the "Shard" building. I would recommend this hotel.

Fair 4.0
Very poor experience
Rated 4 star at £250 a night, I was expecting a pretty good experience. I was shocked at the lack lustre reception on arrival and the DIY attitude in general. I had to move rooms due to the noise on the 5th floor and at 2pm in the afternoon, had to venture into the hallway to manage the next round of noise coming from late rounds of housekeeping banging doors and shouting. The restaurant manager in the morning was very abrupt and seemed more concerned with ensuring I knew my soya cappacino would be an extra charge than ensuring good service. And on asking for hot water I got yet another “It’s over there help yourself”. There are always upsides and the Receptionist in the morning stood out head & shoulders for smiling at every point of contact, and the afternoon restaurant manager was very professional. This hotel must be holding onto something of past value or fame to charge and position itself the way it does, but I travel frequently and will never return to this hotel.
