Gem in a great location
Very pleasnt hotel in a great location. Very easy to get around Basel from here. Only negative would be that clean up after the restaurant closes around midnight was noisy. Tables and chairs scraping etc. and it went on for at least an hour. Ear plugs recommended. Hotel room was very clean, bed comfortable and apart from the above comment, very quiet and relaxing. I will definatley stay here again.

Friendliest, helpful staff.
This hotel has the friendliest, most helpful staff that I have ever encountered. The building contains a small museum area that shows how the 17th century section is built on the old city wall -- 11th century. Tram stop very close for those too tired to walk up the hill after a day visiting art galleries, museums and churches. Basel city hall gives visitors free transport passes. Excellent, safe bicycle storage.

Pleasant stay.
Found the staff and owner very pleasant. The room (18)was a large room on the first floor overlooking the street. Nice, bright room and well equipped. Blackout blinds were good. We knew before booking that the room didn't have air conditioning. However, our trip coincided with a hot spell and it would have been appreciated! Be aware, if you have a room facing the street, there are regular trams immediately outside that run from about 4am until very late so earplugs would be recommended. Perhaps the hotel management would consider providing disposable ones for guests? Outside areas offer nice mix of seating and areas to relax, have a drink or meal. If visiting Basel again, we would likely stay at this hotel.
