J Plus Hotel by YOO

Great quirky design hotel. Stayed in room 2104 an executive suite: large one bed with triple aspect outlook so lots of natural light. Comfortable bed. Bathroom well stocked. Convenient location.

The dining / breakfast area is small and uncomfortable although the layout looks chic. Since the places are limited we should be allowed to collect the breakfast up to our room. I noticed some quests with kids / babies had to sit on benches to have their breakfast which can be dangerous if hot drinks are served. A few years ago I recalled that we are allowed to do so but this time around I was been told off by one of the not -so - courteous staff in the presence of other hotel guests ,against taking the few pieces of pastry up to our room. I was directed to an upright sofa balancing my collected food in hand. This episode was quite embarrassing . If this practice is not encouraged then written notices should be posted for the guests reference.

Excellent location, great amenities at reasonable price. After Shama in Causeway Bay closed, it was difficult to find serviced apartments in CWB at decent price. J Plus is a great alternative. Good: great location, good-sized room, free continental breakfast and evening drinks. Usual washing machines and dryer to use plus chill out area. Bad: no gym and maybe 30 seconds (I am being picky here) further away to MTR than Shaman.

Front office staff was helpful but I got a glimpse of service level of pre 1997. harsh tone and impatient undertone.

When I booked our room, it did not have any option for extra people so I booked for 2. From the photos there was plenty of room/ couches for my 2 kids. For USD250 per night, it’s a good deal. When we arrived for check in, I was told bluntly that we will be charged an extra USD700 so my kids will have blankets and pillows for themselves that they will set up on one of the couches and on a roll away bed. When I asked for a discount and mentioned maybe my young daughter can stay with us on the same bed, the receptionist named Wilson sarcastically said “Actually I can charge higher. But this is already the price I’m giving you.” - no smile nor any appeasing attitude. So we reluctantly just paid. The lobby looked really chic and smelled nice as expected in boutique hotels. The continental breakfast area was so cramped up and the food was really limited to bread, 1 kind of ham, cheese squares in plastic straight from the packaging. The room was great - kitchenette, dining, living and a separate masters. The bathroom was nice although the shower door should have been set for pushing not pulling as it always was a challenge not hitting the toilet seat. Towels were fluffy and nice. The pillows were flat, fluffy but flat. I aready asked for extra pillows but they all flattened down and caused aches in the morning. The cabinet needs to be updated. Hard to open and close. Both airconditioning units were noisy at night.
