Held to ransom.
Really poor stay in the Intercontinental Times Square. Firstly my partner was patronised by a member of staff upon arrival when asking about the lift to the room. Next on check in we were told that there was a compulsory payment of $35 per night to cover laundry, drinks and food whether we wanted to use the facilities or not. This $35 couldn’t be transferred onto the next day. The $15 for the laundry was pointless as the most I could get for the money was 1 polo shirt washed. That wasn’t ready for me to pickup at checkout so it was lost to the hotel. It was a $100 polo shirt. The most the $10 drink part would get was one small beer which wasn’t much use to 2 people. $10 for food got you nothing. It was basically a way for the hotel to make more money out of you. We said we didn’t want to pay to but they said it was compulsory but “it isn’t stated on the Hotels.com website”. Our room wasn’t made up so we had to call down to tell the front desk. We had been out of the room that day from 07:30 until 4pm. We then had to leave the room whilst they did it. The attitude of the staff was rotten and I’d never stay there again. Felt like we were constantly being held to ransom or subject to poor service. Room was tiny too which is disappointing considering how much we paid fora “good” room.

Hidden charges & Appalling standard from an IHG
I was provided with no information before my stay about transport from and to the airport. At check in, the arrival was impersonal and no effort was made to make us feel welcome, no conversation other than here's your room key. The room and bathroom, I suppose were not typical of the photos I had seen online, clearly some rooms have been updated and that is what they advertise. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast choice was good. Concierge did not make any real effort to help us and the overall atmosphere in the lobby was one of mayhem. Upon checking out, the staff had added breakfast to the bill, which was included in the room rate and rather than check they just initially disputed it before it was removed. Sales Tax and city tax were expected however an additional tax was also added when I asked about then I was told that it was to cover the internet (really? in 2019!) /laundry and that you also get a meal allowance of $20/day (which was not even taken off room service). I was also told that within my booking, I was entitled to 1 free excursion a day from popular NY tourist attractions. Given that I had paid for a NY City Pass during my stay this was obviously frustrating. My booking stated that the fee I had paid included all fees and taxes so in reality IHG are showing us lower fees online to compete and then charging us more when we get there. The information they told me at check out is what I should have known before my arrival or at least upon check-in.

Poor 2.0
Dirty linen in two different rooms
The bedding was dirty in two room, we moved out of the first into a slightly lower floor, and then in that bedroom we found a dirty duvet with marks. We were offered free breakfast but for a 5 star hotel it’s incredibly dissapointing.

Lovely hotel room which was very clean and spacious. Bit noisy with the traffic even in a higher level room. The beer was out of date in the mini fridge by 2 months!!

Good location
Although efficient it somewhat lacked a friendly approach. They tried to charge for a number of mini bar items we didn't have, but once contested they credited them back without a fuss.

Good 6.0
Good, not great.
The location couldn’t be better, and it’s right above a subway entrance. Rooms are clean, bathroom was lovely but bedroom decor dated. Perfect as a ‘base’ if you are going to be out all day sightseeing. More like a 4 star hotel, not 5.

Great hotel & great location
The hotel was very comfortable (good room sizes ) and staff friendly & helpful & in a great location . Would definitely stay again . A lot of extra charges & taxes on the bill but I think that's pretty standard in NYC
