Good 6.0
Location of the hotel and view from room was great. Cleanliness of room with dust all over desk and opened sweets from last customer. Weird protocol of hotel to 'hide' the second towels in a cloth laundry bag inside the wardrobe? We checked in as a couple in a double room. Service in residents bar on first afternoon wasn't great. We had to go to the bar as the bar tender tried to look busy. After that he did table service for other guests.

Nice hotel perfectly placed in Chester
Great staff, great hotel, lovely breakfast. Parking available in the basement, we were lucky enough to get s space a friend was not and she had to park elsewhere in the city. Upon checking in I asked if breakfast was included, I was informed it was and at no point was I informed that there was a cost for using the hotel car park. I paid for the hotel in full several months in advance. So to my surprise upon checking out after one night stay in a double room for two I was informed I would need to settle my bill for the breakfast (£30 at £15 each) and the parking at total of £40. This I found to be an unpleasant surprise but paid non the less, the staff were lovely and helpful and allowed us to use the car park for an extra couple of hours as long as the vehicle was clear ready for check in time. Check in is at 14:00 and check out 11:00, we needed to be somewhere before 13:30 on the day of check in and not returning before 00:00 hours (last check in is before 00:00) fourtunately when we arrived at approximately 12:50 we were allowed to check in at that time. Did notice that some of the complimentary shampoo's had the seal broke, had been refilled and did notice a bit of ware and use on the caps, not the best touch for a well promoted hotel. I would however recommend the hotel as overall it is very good, great location, lovely tasting breakfast and very attentive staff.

Very good 8.0
Great for a short business trip
Loved all the aspects - room size, quality, restaurant, location and service. Slightly disappointed with rooms not having been checked before check in. The wash basin in toilet was clogging and wasn’t a good experience in the morning when you are getting ready to leave for work. Overall I would still recommend and if given an option will book again myself

Very good 8.0
Overall recommended, despite some hiccups
Got to the room and found the window open, a very faint smell of smoke and damp, and the heating off. It was freezing! Went to the front desk and they 'reset' the heating. Nothing happened. After a further 2 visits to reception covering an hour in total, they kindly moved and upgraded us. The room we ended up in was lovely, with a huge bed and a bath behind it, although it was let down very slightly by a poor finish in some areas, ie there was a gap between the bath taps and the wall, and the glass separating panels were out of alignment. The room was however stylish, immaculately clean, and very thoughtfully stocked with travel items such as toiletries and a sewing kit. There was also a mini bar of sorts, with snacks which weren't too overpriced. That night we had cocktails and dinner in the bar, both of which were absolutely excellent. The bartender had clearly been properly trained in mixology, and the food was both flawless and good value. The full English breakfast the following morning was honestly one of the best I have ever had. Everything was of high quality, appropriate portions, and cooked well. Also on offer was cold cuts, toast, cereals, proper fresh juice and freshly mixed smoothies, and an array of teas and coffees. On the second and final morning, we were left a little disappointed as the breakfast times stated in the less-than-clear hotel pack suggested it finished at 1100. We went down at 1030 to find that it did in fact stop at 1000 :(

Convenient location
Rubbish wifi. Found their fussy security tedious: taking the keycard out of the slot on the wall to go down to the car in their garage (because you need it to use the lift and to re-access the bedroom floor) left the bedroom and (windowless bathroom) with no power at all! No light, no tv.... Also of course, no power to recharge iPad etc while you're out. And no fridge, because no power if you're not there; tray of lukewarm water, juice, chocolate in the room. When we requested a second chair in the bedroom on arrival, they sounded doubtful. Day two, no second chair and no communication from them saying it was/wasn't available. We re-requested, and a chair did appear later in the day. Over four nights, the water at the handbasin and in the shower varied between sometimes lukewarm and reasonably hot. Found air conditioning controls difficult: room cold, could not increase the temperature, but it was August so we just turned it off. And every day when we got back in, the room was cold as the staff had turned it back on, and so we switched it off again. Yes, we could have asked for help working the controls, but we lost the will - and air conditioning was not in fact needed. They got in a muddle with the two newspapers we ordered. Slapped a service charge on the restaurant bill as if it was obligatory. Higher garage charge at the weekend without that being shown on the website. We felt their priority was running their hotel, not looking after the needs of their guests.
