Good 6.0
Very clean, large and comfortable room - more old fashioned than shabby chic in some décor but this added to the personality of the hotel. Some things distinctly lacking however, there was no welcome from the owners, we were left alone and waiting for 10 mins on arrival with no bell or contact number at reception. Eventually we were shown to our room politely but not warmly and were given no information regarding facilities etc. When woken up by very loud music at 3am we had no contact number for the owners, no mobile reception or wifi signal in order to find a number and were unable to leave our room in fear that we would be locked out of our annex area (we were not given a key to enter the hotel or annex, just our individual room). Very expensive for what was given. The hall was lovely, the grounds beautiful, the view outstanding. The room was fine, but for nearly £200 we were expecting it to be excellent.

Charming in every way
Ideally located just a short drive from the M6. Parking was easy and as you pull down the drive to this small stately home you already begin to relax. The grounds are beautiful. We were met by Olivia? But didn’t see her for the rest of the stay. She quickly checked us in and took us up to our room. The Gray Room has a lovely comfortable double bed, lots of room, a lovely view, spacious shower and a separate inviting bath. Hot water was plentiful. Breakfast on Saturday was from 8.30 with a nice selection of cooked foods as well as cereal. The portion size wasn’t too big which is great as an enourmous breakfast isn’t something I would choose at home. The breakfast room has a lovely view over the river where we watched the newly arrived sand martins. We were 5 miles from Carlisle, £16 by taxi. 25 minutes from Handrians wall and it’s best locations. 30 minutes from Gretna Green which has a good outlet shopping centre. Overall our stay was perfect and I would not hesitate to stop here again.

Exceptional 10.0
A relaxing, welcoming stop to recharge.
We needed somewhere to stay that was close to, but not in, Carlisle. Warwick Hall was utterly perfect. The staff were kind, thoughtful and efficient. The food was excellent and served in delightful rooms. Nothing was pretentious. Here was an old house with grounds where you were welcome to explore, ask questions and be treated as old friends, rather than punters to pay. We arrived later than hoped for having driven 300 miles, and simply fell into the refreshment of drinks before dinner (on the terrace with wonderful views of the river and sand martins catching their dinner) and excellent food. (Val cooks the best steaks I have ever eaten) During dinner Val offered us a wonderful linen sheet for the bed because the weather was so hot. We hadn't asked, but she had thought about us. The whole stay was just like that, like being a private guest in someone's home. And that is the unique selling point of Warwick Hall.

Fair 4.0
This should have been a lovey stay in a classic estate house with beautiful gardens and view but it wasn’t. Between the gruff welcome and being shoved through what looked like a combination of servants quarters and the storeroom, it was the disrepair of the house and room that made Warwick hall an unpleasant place to stay. The room was in desperate need of someone like the hotel inspectors expertises. Breakfast was pleasant enough but again very detached from customer service. The only glimmer of customer service hope was a smiling young man at check out and the resident dogs. Warwick hall is in desperate need of a revamp and new management.

Very good 8.0
Stunning location on River Eden
If you like large rooms with large windows and a country house feel, this is the hotel for you. If you are into huntin/shooting and fishing , so much the better. The rooms are truly spacious with a huge comfortable bed with crisp, crunchy sheets, a light down duvet and oh so rare in hotels, soft pillows! The furnitue and pictures are tasteful and not too chintzy. Best of all for me we’re all the stunning rugs, some a bit worse for wear, but that just adds to the charm. Drinks before supper in grand drawing room. It is like staying with friends, not a hotel.
