Budget accomodation
Lets put things in perspective first, this is a budget accommodation so no point critiquing it as if I was paying for a 5 star hotel. What is it I'm looking for in a budget or any hotel. Cleanliness, location and comfort. The room was was clean and the beds were spotless well made hospital corners cotton/linen sheets with coloured duvets. This is a must for me having a clean room and spotless beds and this passed with flying colours. One down side was its an old building and during the evening/night it sounded like a heard of elephants where above me thumping around and talking loudly which was disappointing. It was too late in night to complain and I was so tired I managed to get through it. The next morning I spoke to reception and complained about the noise and I was advised the guests in that room were booking out that day. However, I guessed whoever was in that room would disturb me and I asked to be moved. I went out that morning 9.30am leaving my room 5 key behind and didn't returned until 10.30pm. I called at the bar attached to the guest house and told them I didn't have a key to my room as I was being moved. The very friendly staff called the manager and he appeared with new room key no questions asked. My new room 6 was equally clean and spotless well made beds. Overall I had a very enjoyable stay. The decor is dated and not to my taste but what would you expect at this price. Its locations is well situated with easy walking access to the sea front.

Good rooms, excellent facilities
Very good staff, very good all you can eat buffet restaurant reasonably priced. Bar is good, again very reasonably priced. Owned by a Nepalese family lots of nice artifacts and pictures all over the hotel Owner and family's military heritage displayed in a display in the restaurant/reception area Was a good chance to explain to my grand-daughter about the proud Gurkha soldiers that have served in the British army over history (didn't mention how successive governments have screwed them over!) Rooms at the front possibly a little bit of road noise but didn't disturb me. rooms at the back quieter. rooms tidy and clean, beds firm, shower was superb! All in all I wouldn't hesitate to stay again!

Rejuvinated hotel that is good value.
We stayed at the Gurkha about 18 months ago and thought it was average, although value for money. On our return we were pleasantly surprised to find that the restaurant, general areas of the hotel and rooms had been done up to a much higher standard than before. The staff are as friendly and welcoming as before and we would recommend the hotel, especially if like us you are going to an event at The Waterloo which is practically next door.

Fair 4.0
Walking distance to the town
Room was clean and the beds were comfortable but there was a floor board broken and I lost my footing and fell down a step in the room and hurt my shoulder I tried to tell someone but I could only see a member of staff so I asked her if I could talk to the manager but the manager never came so I don't think that I would stay here again

Gig weekend
Stayed at The Gurkha as it was close to the venue for two nights of gigs. The owners were polite and friendly. The location was great for the Waterloo Music venue. The room was a little bit tired but the shower was hot and the bedding was clean. Wouldn't come here for a romantic break but for a weekend with mates, and at the price we paid, it was perfectly acceptable.
