Dirty (bath)room, unprofessional staff
When we checked in, staff wasnt friendly. The 1. thing we recognized was that the door slammed when the window was opened. We had to keep the window open because the heater couldn't be turned off. the bathroom was absolutely disgusting. Stains everywhere, on the wall, the ceiling, in the toilet, below the sink, a dirty toilet brush, mould and scale in the shower, shower door broken and a rusty curtain rod, no shower curtain. We were very tired so we just went to bed. After breakfast we asked the receptionist (I think the owner was also present) to clean the bathroom properly while we were out for the day. When we came back after 5 hours the only things that changed were that they hung up a molded shower curtain and put some cleansing liquid in the toilet. The stains and mould were not removed. The room itself was very dusty (bedside lamp, heater, under the bed, crumbs on the tray with cups and a dirty spoon. There were stains on the wall from a former water damage. The breakfast: was okay in general, staff was unfriendly, we missed black pudding and haggies coming with the full scottish breakfast. Cutterly was placed by touching the top, tablecloth was swept by hand. Another guest spilled some milk on the floor while staff stood beside and it wasn't removed until we left 15 mins later. Staff (especially the woman who did reception and breakfast"service") was not friendly and helpful. Pictures were taken AFTER request to clean.

Our first choice in Glasgow
We love this hotel: excellent location, spacious rooms and beautiful four-poster beds. We have and will continue to choose The Clifton over any other hotel in Glasgow. However, this time we had an issue with the car park. Everything was fine on arrival- loads of space etc. However, it filled after we arrived, causing us to have to battle to remove our car when leaving and resulting in a few nasty scratches. No compensation was given for this. In future, we will park around the corner instead of paying to damage our car. Another tiny improvement could have been made with the cleaning of our room, but I am really nit-picking here: bed etc was made and towels replaced which was great, but surfaces had not been wiped down nor floor swept or at least tidied: I had spilt some of make-up powder and there were a few receipts etc on the floor. In summary, a wonderful hotel and another great stay but a few improvements could be made.

Competitively priced with on site parking
The Clifton Hotel was very near to where we were to have our meeting and was one of the few with available parking (£5/night). The receptionist was extremely helpful and gave us a map of the city and briefed us on what was available in the local area and the attractions in the city as a whole and the public transport arrangements in the city. There is a good selection of food for breakfast. The room was large with two double beds, complimentary toiletries,tv and tea and coffee making facilities. The things that were not so good:- It is an old building with high ceilings and single glazed windows so it is very difficult to heat the bedroom or bathroom to a comfortable level in the winter. (It snowed while we were there.) There were no instructions of what to do in the event of a fire. From the carpark to our room on the 2nd floor there are a lot of steep stairs to climb, so not good for people with mobility issues. Would we stay again? Yes

Exceptional 10.0
Perfect for us .Perfect location
My son and I loved our weekend away. Check-in was at 3 but the Clifton allowed us to drop off our luggage early so we could go exploring Glasgow. The room was on the third floor, which is quite a climb ..got our steps up for the day .The room had a double and single bed and the bathroom was bigger than the one in our own house (bonus extra toilet just outside our room and another extra bathroom further up corridor if needed). The rooms could have been doing with a bit of updating and possibly better cleaning (lamps and crevices) but it was perfect for us .Right next to the Botanic gardens, right on Great Western road ,5 mins from 2 underground stations. Perfect location for us.Breakfast was good.Staff were friendly .Check-out was 11 but yet again they let us leave our luggage so we could spend more time in the City ..this was fab and above and beyond .. thanks xxx

Comfortable, Affordable (& Clean!)
Great location at an affordable price! Many amenities within walking distance, some right on the doorstep. Room was comfortable and had everything you need minus a hairdryer. The shower was well-powered and the water nice and hot. Bedroom decor a bit out-dated but if you're just looking for somewhere to sleep and shower and you're not planning on spending much time chilling out at the hotel then it's a perfect place to stay! Plus there's so much on offer in the surrounding area that you won't want to stay in the hotel. Breakfast was free each morning we stayed but we only took advantage of this once as it wasn't the best Scottish breakfast. The fried egg looked bad and the mushrooms weren't great either. The bacon was super salty too! Everything else at breakfast was pleasant though. But if you want a good, hearty Scottish breakfast, I'd recommend hitting up one of the many nearby west-end cafes and paying the price, because it'll be worth it. Overall, however, we had a very pleasant stay in this hotel. It was clean, comfortable, and affordable and it really is in a fantastic location!
