The best hotel in Kings Lynn
This is a very grand building with a sweeping and impressive staircase up to the rooms. My room was on the top floor and was absolutely magnificent with a gorgeous bed and lovely fixtures and bathroom. Due to my late arrival I was unable to eat in the restaurant but I did have a few drinks in the modern bar.

Pleasant hotel marred by poor restaurant
Although the hotel is absolutely fine, I cannot really recommend the restaurant. It looks quite smart and polished, but the good is no more than OK and the service was not very professional. Even though the restaurant was almost empty when I entered it (about 8.30pm on a Tuesday evening, only one other table was occupied), the young waiter who greeted me seemed put out to learn that I did not have a reservation. He then spent some time faffing around trying to get my name and room number and enter these details on his computer, whilst I was left standing awkwardly at the door, waiting to be seated. After he finally showed me to a table, his service was stilted throughout the meal, with rather forced pleasantries. When the bill came, I found I had been overcharged by £10 for a double brandy. Although the mistake was rectified and a new bill printed out, there was no apology - just something mumbled about "it's the computer's fault, don't know how it did that". The food was no more than OK: potted brown shrimps that appeared to have been defrosted and we're quite tasteless, and a Caesar's salad that had an overpoweringly creamy dressing.

A perfect stay apart from a couple of niggles
We had to change rooms as the room we were first given was overlooking some sort of plant (heating?) so the noise was constant and seeing as how we like to sleep with the windows open..... That room was in the original part of the building. The room we were changed to was in the "newer" extension and was a nice room apart from the lack of bath and the lack of air conditioning. The latter was no problem as we always travel with a fan but the design of the room must have been done by a bloke. The hair dryer was one of those awkward to hold ones and situated in the bathroom - that's a no no as it gets so hot in there so you end up having to take another shower to get over it! So luckily I had bought my own hairdryer - however, if you need a mirror when using a hairdryer or straighteners, good luck with that! - the room mirror is stuck on the wall too far away from the electric sockets !! I would advise you either take a stand alone mirror or an extension cable. or do what I did and use the selfie on an ipad! Apart from that, we had an amazing stay as always.
