Our stay was very pleasant & all the staff were excellent. But as a very frequent global traveller I think the owners/managers of the hotel either ran out of money or are woefully inexperienced because they missed out on the opportunity to create the most luxurious hotel room in Haarlem. We chose the largest room, The Loft, which is huge but what a disappointment! The interior is cold, bland, empty, hollow. boring and characterless...and yet it could have been so incredible! It takes a lot to fill a large space and make it feel cosy and luxurious but there has been no attempt to do so. The whole space feels + looks cheap and as if no thought has gone into it. The walls are huge + bare, there is a large kitchen but no cooking hob or oven (so no way of preparing any food) but there is an enormous steel sink and a dishwasher - why?? The dining table + 6 chairs are dull, the two large sofa beds are ugly and uncomfortable. The lighting is absolutely atrocious (worst I've ever seen), why are there 2 bathrooms? The curtains are cheap and boring. No bathrobes. No softclose toilet seats. No plants or table lamps or floor lamps. No opening windows so no fresh air. Terrible acoustics. Super hard mattress and terrible pillows. Strange combination of furniture. No phone to call reception (so no room service). Empty fridge, no mini bar. It should have a sauna, 1 or 2 free-standing baths. Room needs a complete makeover. I'd pay more than double if the room was luxurious. But sadly it isn't.
