All in all a good stay but could have been better. Room large but could do with a freshen up.

Business stay
a lovely old house with a converted stable block - plenty of free parking, lovely grounds. Our room was in the stable block and although the room wasn't huge, it had everything we needed. Breakfast was plentiful and the service was great throughout our stay

Grand but needs attention
I have stayed here many times and generally love the hotel it’s shabby splendour and its quirkiness as well as the friendliness of the staff. Very comfortable bed good size rooms are very welcome while some of the furniture and decor could do with updating. I would strongly suggest that they do something about the menu and also ensure they provide better and faster bar service.

After staying at this hotel i'm really surprised about the positive scoring of other visitors to this hotel... It is dirty. I mean badly dirty. Im reviewing the main building:All furniture in all areas in am awful state, everything covered in cobwebs with stains on carpets old paintings etc.bedroom we were initially given had rusty ancient bath all over and bad mould on windows. Great service from the staff on the day who moved us to the fantastic room, huge thank you to the team! (On the second day the service however was nonexistent...) It was sad to see that even in great in such a great room there were cobwebs on the beautiful old window frames and mould around the bath... One of the dirtiest hotels I've ever stayed in(I am a regular business traveller). The history of the hotel deserves better! I would recommend to book elsewhere until these issues are sorted. Overall quite an unpleasant experience I'm afraid..
