Shame we lost so much time
I don't think I'll ever know if the mistake was made by Hilton or Hotels.com but I booked (and prepaid) two rooms for one night (for me and three friends). On arrival, they said it was only one room and the guy behind the desk demanded ID from all of us immediately. --it might be worth mentioning that I wasn't ID'd last time I stayed there and when I questioned it he said that EVERYONE always had to be ID'd... something his collegue at the desk wasn't doing while standing right next to him.-- When I'd managed to get on their wifi and show him my booking he did at least hold a second room for us (a standard double rather than a queen bed) saying it was the last in the hotel but he wanted me to pay again - and presumably argue it afterwards. I spent about 50 minutes stood at reception on with Hotels.com while they in turn were on with the Hilton reservations team. Fair play to Hotels.com as they sorted it. The attitude of the guy on reception was far from apologetic but I think he finally got that we were genuine - and that he'd lost us nearly an hour (not to mention the embarrassment). He finally offered us a free drink. I had time to drink half of it. Next time, I'll go back to Apex round the corner.

Lovely weekend break but avoid the roof bar
A great location is this hotels best asset.Comfortable, if somewhat small, room and bathroom, but good bed and linen. The floor we were on seemed recently renovated and both looked and smelt pleasing. There is some parking but its expensive and you can't pre-book it.....why not??. Wi-fi is extra which at the room rates charged seems a little greedy. Amenities are ok...but you will get a much better breakfast at Pret 50 yards away for 25% of the price. Generally staff are quite thin on the ground (both on the front desk and housekeeping) and we did seem to be kept waiting around alot. All in all its fair value for central London but you can find much better value for money if you look around. A word of warning...avoid, at all costs, the roof top bar ....I am not sure if the hotel run it or if its farmed out but it really is a shocker.....very expensive...extraordinaryly rude staff...and excruciatingly loud music even in early evening. Its not really a hotel amenity either as it seems constantly to be rented out for hen parties and there drunken equivalents ..with precious little space for residents to enjoy....hotel security might also be advised to check the loos more frequently when events are on in this bar as clearly they were being used for more than just having a pee when I briefly went in them last Sunday night. If you want to have cocktail with a brilliant London rooftop view and a relaxed atmosphere...walk across the street to Citizen M and see how its done well.

Great check in - poor check out
We stayed three night at the beginning of August and checking in was a really good experience. The duty manager was excellent, friendly and arranged for complimentary drinks in the bar when our room wasn't ready, even though we had arrived at the hotel early. We had an executive room which was clean and well appointed. The Executive lounge is perhaps not as well appointed as some other Doubletree Hiltons we have stayed at but it was more than adequate. Checkout however was not as satisfactory as checking in. On checking out we were asked to pay for the room again even though I had prepaid in advance. The assistant on the desk was adamant the room had not been paid for, even when I produced an email from Hotels.com confirming payment in full. Also the manager when we checked in confirmed everything had been paid. A different manager on the day we checked out was summoned to sort it out which he swiftly did. Also we had a problem with the concierge who was extremely unhelpful when we collected our bags later in the day we checked out. We were directed first to the ground floor desk, then upstairs to the first floor, then directed back down again to the ground floor, where we waited 20 minutes only for the concierge on the first floor to appear helping two young women, offering to take their bags to their car. No such curtesy showed to us who had been waiting so long, or to the elderly couple we saw struggling with their bags down the stairs from the first floor.

Nice Hotel, Location. Communication Difficult.
This hotel is close to the Underground station (Tower Hill) which was perfect for us, since we had just taken the underground from the airport. We had arrived on an early flight from the United States, and checked in at the desk. When I was filling out the paperwork, I noticed that my home address and zip code was incorrect, which was strange, and requested to change it - I crossed everything out and input the correct information. Since our room was not ready yet (it was about 9am) we checked our bags with the concierge and decided to check out some sites in the area (Tower of London is right down the street). We returned to the hotel around 1:00pm and were incredibly tired due to Jet lag - I inquired if our room might be ready yet because we could barely keep our eyes open, and the staff said they would just switch us to a different room and we could check in early. This was appreciated. Our room was very clean, and the right size for 2 people. The bed was hard as a rock, but you can overlook that when you've been awake for 27 hours. One of the things we wish we had received was information on the area, as well as information about dining in the hotel. We kind of had to fend for ourselves, and found that desk and concierge staff often weren't sure of everything either. Upon checkout, we asked for a receipt and they said it would be emailed to us. We gave them our email address again, but we never received it. Had to call from the US when we returned.

Reception staff were very efficient and quick to deal with any waiting customers at check in and out. They were very friendly and helpful. The savage garden restaurant and bar is very nice , and has an outside area with a beautiful skyline view of some very famous buildings. Something to watch out for , if you are like me and think you should only pay a service charge if it’s due and I must admit I was shocked that at the restaurant bar upstairs, you were charged a service charge for basically ordering a drink at the bar and waiting for it to be made . When normally you pick a cocktail from the menu , the price is what you pay in the menu, you only normally pay a service charge if eating and drink in the restaurant, so it was a bit of a shock to fined from memory, I think 12.5 percent added on top of my experience £28 cocktails ( that was for two) so be prepared to pay!! The bedroom was a nice size and a comfortable temperature, the bed was large and comfy. En-suite was compact but useable.
