Holiday Inn Express Exeter East by IHG

Holiday Inn Express Exeter East by IHG

8/10 Good
"Booked a twin room but told they were full on arrival so we were upgraded to the family room. Love that it was literally near the entrance on ground floor. Only downside to the room as the pull out sofa bed dipped so my daughter was sleeping in a downward tiltwd position and the room had a musty smell to it. Aside from that, food was great and handy to a restaurant on site. Also other eateries nearby too. Was fine for a nights stay."

"Driving up to the hotel, it looked disappintingly like a low end budget hotel....i see now why the first image on expedia was of the attached Carriages Restaurant. On this particular visit, the land close by was being developed... cant hear anything, but the view from the room looked out towards the construction site. Carpet along the hallways was dated. Room itself was good but more attention needs to be paid to dusting.. there were threads of spider web in the coffee cups.. Air conditioning worked nicely, beds were clean and comfortable. Room wasnt as spacious as id throught it might have been. Bathroom was well presented...the tap did seem "blocked"... and indeed it was... after several wipes with tissue paper, wiping away gunk that had clogged it up, the tap was flowing nicely... toilet was low profile and clean. The experience with the taps did however make me feel uncomfortable using it. At night, on a clear night, the car park made for an excellent star gazing site."

St Andrews Hotel

8/10 Good
"Nice independent hotel. As others have mentioned the noise from the road is so loud and constant. But if you have some decent ear plugs that shouldn't stop you staying here. Great location for dinner at the Quay and free parking. O ly slight downside was having to pay £10 for a lost room card whilst standing watching them put a newpiece of plastic in the machine to allocate to room. This shouldn't really be £10 as the rooms are probably expensive enough. I'd probably stay again but mainly because of the location and parking. Staff are pleasant enough. Breakfast ok - altho the sausages were as cheap as chips."

"Lovely hotel, great rooms and such comfy beds. It was a warm night and the air con was very good. I’ve stayed here a few times now and the only reason I’ve not given 5 stars is that I’m starting to notice a few minor maintenance issues creeping in such as some mould in the shower that hasn’t been cleaned. Apart from that though very much recommended and I look forward to my next visit, 🙂"

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Exeter

  1. Book for the cheapest times: The most affordable time to visit Exeter is during January, February, and November, when hotel prices are generally lower. To truly appreciate the city’s rich history and cultural landmarks, it is recommended to stay for at least 2 to 3 days. This timeframe allows visitors to explore attractions such as the stunning cathedral, the vibrant university, and local monuments, all while enjoying the friendly atmosphere of this small town. With budget-friendly options available, Exeter offers great value for money for those on a budget, and prices may drop during these months, making it an ideal choice for a memorable getaway.
  2. Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To discover last-minute deals in Exeter, visit the DealsOpens in a new window or Last-Minute DealsOpens in a new window sections on Hotels.com, where you may find discounted hotel rates as your travel date approaches. Consider enabling email alerts or push notifications to stay updated on flash sales and special promotions, ensuring you don't miss potential savings. Additionally, the Smart ShoppingOpens in a new window feature on the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, helping you make informed decisions. With these tools, you’re more likely to see the best hotel deals and take advantage of any price drops or room availability.
  3. Be flexible with dates: Prices may fluctuate depending on factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year, so being flexible with your travel dates could help you find a better deal for your stay in an Exeter hotel. For those seeking something distinctive, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised experience and can sometimes offer better value. When you make a booking through Hotels.com, we’ll inform you whether the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price is on the higher side, we may suggest alternative dates that could be more affordable.
  4. Consider your location: Hotels in close proximity to the city centre generally tend to be more expensive, but thanks to Exeter's superb public transport links, you might discover a more affordable independent hotel located further afield that is still conveniently connected. For those keen to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often excellent value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
