Exceptional 10.0
Centrally located in Glasgow city.
This was our first city break in years to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary(50yrs). Glasgow holds a lot of special memories, so it was enjoyable to visit our special places like the Rennie Macintosh Tea Rooms & the Art Galleries & to see the Macintosh furniture designs. Glasgow has so much to offer in evening entertainment & the Style Mile shopping precinct on Buchanan Street has something for everyone if you like shopping for pleasure. Much of the city has now been cleaned up and there are many new modern buildings going up adding to the vibrancy of this old city. Our hotel, The Indigo, has an amazing history dating back to the first electric lighting in the city. Inside the hotel has an art deco style and is very clean & efficiently run. Our staff were all very pleasant & helpful and went out of their way to make you feel welcome. Our King size room was excellent, very clean and quiet. The hotel has a 'Marco Polo White' steak restaurant & when they knew it was our Golden Wedding Anniversary they gave us free champagne with our Chateau Briand steak dinner which was superb. Overall we would rate the hotel as an excellent choice and location for a short or long break. It was so nice to get away from the normal Holiday Inn style of hotel and to stay in a hotel where we had nothing to generally complain about Well done Indigo and its lovely staff.

Service attitude let this hotel down
Lovely room and twin beds. Bedroom itself was larger than I expected and quite funky with its bright red accents. However some of the lights a bit too red/ dim so it made seem like a girly boudoir. The smartphone guide was a nice thought but unfortunately the app not so useful. A bit of a squeeze to reach the minibar ( free contents - nice touch!), kettle and wardrobes. However I couldn't rate this stay higher overall due to Reception . Check in was good and fast (but I'd prepaid everything already). Check out however found us at the front of the unmanned Reception desk in lobby with 2 other guests behind us. A few minutes later a member of staff approached. But breezed straight in and out of the office without even asking if we were being attended to. When we enquired how long it'd be before someone could help, he shrugged and said they were probably in a toilet break and didn't know. No bell or other means to call, so we all stood queueing until someone turned up after a few minutes. We'd asked to leave our luggage for collection later. But noticed it was left just behind the Reception desk next to the main doors. We decided to just carry and look after one piece with more sensitive contents.

Dissatisfied
We’ve stayed at this hotel before, so returned expecting the same pleasing experience, but left very disappointed! The service upon arrival was fine & our room was good, but the service at breakfast was absolutely dreadful! We were initially ignored by the restaurant floor manager; when he eventually came to seat us, his manner was somewhat brusque. We were told that the kitchen was very busy, so there would be a 10 minute wait before our order for hot food could be taken, but to help ourselves to continental breakfast in the meantime (we were understanding of this). Our order was eventually taken (after 25 mins approx) & it still hadn’t arrived after being in the restaurant for approx 50mins! I asked the server to chase this up (as the table who were seated some time after us, had received their order); when it did appear, the order was wrong & the quality of the food was poor! My partner was late for work due to this apalling service (we would have left had we not already pay for the breakfast) & when I notified reception, they apologised but did not take any other action - a refund of breakfast costs, would have been a small token towards dispelling my complete disappointment at this dreadful service! In future, we’ll consider other hotels which hopefully have a more efficient breakfast service!

Nice hotel, close to city centre
Whilst we did have a pleasant stay, our supposed free upgrade to a 'superior room' did not meet our expectations. We had originally requested a twin room with two double beds, and were offered a free upgrade to a superior room but with just one bed, although it was King size. The upgrade included a free mini bar and three free movies. We had a couple of items out of the mini bar which was nice, however despite the person on reception trying to set up our free movies, he was unable to help us. When he left the room after trying many different remote handsets, he left us with the one that had no battery in it, so we couldn't even watch TV. To add to this, our bill stated a charge for movies that we didn't actually watch, although we weren't charged for that. By way of compensation the receptionist at checkout offered us a free drink, which we declined. I felt that the 'free upgrade' was more to suit the hotel; maybe they didn't actually have a twin room with two double beds for us. It might seem like quite a silly thing, but when you've spent time researching the best place to stay and booking a night away for a special occasion with your daughter, and your plan is to chill out at the end of the evening and watch a movie, it was kind of disappointing not to be able to do so. The breakfast was lovely and the ladies who served us at breakfast were very friendly and helpful. Overall we had a pleasant enough stay, but I think I might choose a different hotel next time.

Mixed Experience-Gaps in Service
Although the room on my second stay at Indigo was better organized in terms of set up than the first, and it was nice to have the soda, water and snacks, some aspects of service were troublesome. We were not told that we needed reservations for dinner when we checked in and since it was very early (6PM) and there was only one other occupied table we thought there would be no problem with a table at dinner. However, the hostess was reluctant to seat us but we persisted and told her we would be quick. An hour later, when we left, only 3 other tables were occupied. Not sure why they thought they were so busy that they couldn't give a guest a table @ 6PM? Generally it was not a welcoming experience in the restaurant. The hotel reservation was prepaid and this was acknowledged at check in, however, at check out, they tried to charge the room a second time, albeit at 20% less than I had pre-paid. When checking in we requested a cab for the day of check out because we had an early flight, but when we checked out and asked about our cab, they eventually realized they had given the cab away to the person who checked out before us. In addition, the price they quoted for what we were told was a flat rate to the airport was incorrect.
