Exceptional 10.0
Nice, clean and luxurious hotel for a fair price!
The staff was very couteous and polite, the check-in was very easy (even at 1am) and the hotel room was very clean, welcoming and luxurious. I was a little bit disappointed by the docksider Restaurant in terms of the price compared to the quality. But there is a very good steakhouse near the hotel for people that have a bit more money to spend on a dinner... I had an amaizing view from my hotel room, which was quite big and very clean, welcoming and luxurious. Also the bed was very confortable! The bathroom was clean and bigger than expected. It was very easy to get from Aloft London Excel to the center of London(DLR and Underground... oyster card recommended). The gym and the pool were both clean and nice places to relax or do your workout. The only thing I didnt like about the pool was the fact that there weren't any lockers where I could leave my phone,my wallet, etc.... Talking about the food offering I can recommend checking out the snack bar in the "Re:fuel" area in the lobby of Aloft London Excel. Especially if you dont have the time to have a proper breakfast or dont need that much for breakfast (and also if you want to hang out in your hotel room and watch some TV or something like that). Also, the check-out took barely any time. In conclusion I'd say Aloft London Excel is a very nice, clean, luxurious and welcoming hotel for a very fair price! I've had a great experience and I'd definitely recommend booking a room at Aloft London Excel!

Poor 2.0
Hide your stuff even if it's a nice hotel.
I booked 4 nights at this hotel to celebrate new year with my wife. When we came back to the room in the evening on our second night, we noticed our bag that was left on the bathroom sink counter that morning went missing. The bag contained my $200 electric razor, wife $300 worth of makeup kit, hygiene and skin care products etc. We were shocked and in disbelief and I contacted front desk. A brunette manager, Leanna came by our room and provided some basic hotel hygiene products which was helpful. I told her that housekeeper also came by and cleaned the room so I thought he/she probably mistakenly threw it out. The manager called back few hours later and said the housekeeper doesnt remember about the bag and that he only removed the trash in the trash can. At this time, it was getting late and we were tired so I decided to follow up in the morning. It was after this moment, I couldn't get hold of any of the manager on duty, no one came to check on us. I was frustrated and my wife was emotionally distraught without her makeup and skin care products. Our honeymoon/vacation was nearly ruined due to this incident. So essentially I paid $200 a night at a hotel where it ruined our vacation. We were not offered any compensation, upgrade or any sort of resolution. This could have easily been a 5 star review but due to the incident and lack of concern from staffs made our experience very unpleasant. They didn't care what happened to their guests or how to make the situation better.

Nice and modern but attention to detail needed
The hotel is modern and right next door to the DLR, so easy to get to the underground at Canning Town. The rooms were nice but more thought needed. Amazing filter coffee sachets in the room- but where do you put the soggy coffee filled sachet that is soaking wet ? No bin near the kettle, and the 1 bin in the bedroom had no bag in it, so would have made a real mess of the bin. Towels are above the toilet (directly above) which doesnt seem very hygienic to me. When you come out of the toilet with a hand towel and wash your hands, there is nowhere to hang the towel near the sink. The shower has no tray, (tiled floor) so when you open the shower door outwards, it leaves wet water in front of the toilet, not to mention the toilet being next to the shower so not much privacy there. Fire Alarm went off at midnight, but then stopped after 3 rings, left us in doubt as to what to do, being 7 floors up we didnt want to take any risks. The lift has a sign to say "do not use in the event of a fire" but there was no signage at all to say where the stairs were ? On top of all this we had booked a twin room and was given a small poky double room. When i said my daughter wouldnt sleep for 3 nights if we shared a bed, I was told they had a big conference in and all the twins had been taken up by the conference - nothing like making you feel inferior ! Then told we could have another bed in the room, to be called 5 mins later to say our room wasnt big enough. My daughters 18th marred

Very good 8.0
Our twin room was very spacious, clean, comfortable beds, good pillows. There are constant planes flying past the windows but hardly audible and none during the night. Our room was on floor 2, ideal for the entrance of the ExCel building. Possibly on higher floors the plane noise is louder? Minus points: 2 desks but 1 chair in the room (we asked for another but none were available). One of us had to eat their roomservice meals (very tasty and good choice!) on their lap which wasn't comfortable. The pillow cases didn't fit the pillows (sticking out) and one of the bottom sheets had holes in them. The sheets didn't smell freshly laundered and were itchy on the first night. Tea and coffee provided but no hot chocolate powder for my son, also not provided after asking for it. Odd, as the hotel is Mormon owned. Hotel swimming pool, sauna and steam room all free to use with plenty of towels provided were excellent. Only thing to note is that swimming lessons for local residents take place in part of the pool. So if you're after a quiet swim, enquire as to the times this takes place. One last odd thing to mention; the designer of the hotel seems to like voyeurism. A wall between the shower cubicle and room was opaque glass, so you see the person showering. No locks on bathroom door. Access to pool is via 3 changing cubicles, no locks and again opaque doors. So anyone can see you take off your clothes or open the door while you are naked. Overal experience was good, would come again.

Lovely hotel
I stayed 5 nights at the ALOFT hotel, this was a great place to stay but is amazing how the little things make the biggest difference. Firstly the positive stuff, it is a good 30 minute commute into the city, but all the modern good looking hotels are in this area of Victoria Dock or Canary Wharf. I was happy to stay in this area as it had a lovely outlook. Some negative stuff, the hotel offered me the option of going 'green' to help the planet. What I thought this was, you did not have the towels and sheet changed, which I was happy with. In reality nobody come into the room to do anything. The bins were not emptied, tea, coffee, milk, sugar and water was not replaced either. I requested, via the front desk, for tea and milk to be sent to the room and even went down to collect it but after several requests over two days the supplies still did not arrive so I went out to the supermarket and bought my own. Not what I would have expected from a 4*+ hotel. The hotel restaurant menu was also very limited, I decided to play safe and had soup, this was supposed to come with crusty bread, well it did, but only after I had requested it after the soup had arrived. The soup was cold, so it went back. Unfortunately I would have expected to be replaced but it was just warmed up. Also during my stay the hotel pool was being refurbished, I was not made aware of this until check in. Has I been aware I would have chosen an alternative hotel as I was looking forward to using the pool?
