A taste of the 18th Century
The room was full of character like the 18th century pub across the road connected to it. Very comfortable and close to the cathedral.Lovely little washroom. A cold bedroom and a bit dark. I was disappointed by breakfast as I had made a special request. The experience is value for money. A classy Fullers restaurant part of it

Great location by the Cathedral. The rooms are very well appointed and although the building is over 200 years old, the facilities are very modern and convenient. The pub/restaurant serves great food and the breakfast is outstanding in its choice. The only minus was getting to our room at the top up narrow, uneven stairs with our luggage but that is a minor point if you are able bodied.

Nice quiet place
Didn't eat in the pub but know it well, lovely quiet small place. Hotel rooms themselves are opposite - not part of the building. I had a small room, was lovely and didn't need anything else. Clean, very modern and quiet. Overall can't complain and would stay again

Very good 8.0
Lovely old traditional inn in an excellent (though quiet) location for exploring Winchester on foot. The pub is packed full of pictures and other stuff hanging on the walls which are unsurprisingly a bit grubby! The pub ambience is however cosy and welcoming with a log fire burning pleasantly. Our check in was friendly and efficient but no words of welcome were uttered and I had to wait while the staff member finished his telephone conversation. He just waved the handset at me without making eye contact. The room (Nelson) was traditionally furnished, large with a comfortable bed and enough storage for our weekend stay. Unfortunately there was a smell of woodsmoke from the pub downstairs but we got used to it! No noise though other than a buzz of conversation until closing time..A suitcase stand would have been a useful addition. It was well heated and double glazed. The bathroom was well appointed and both rooms were spotlessly clean. Breakfast buffet was OK. Other things were cooked freshly and were very good.

Really oldie worldie pub/restaurant/ hotel, plenty of character inside and out. Be good food, well cooked but expensive for what you get.
