Disappointing experience
You pay for the view of the room, not for the service. The service was disappointing. We ordered a bottle of wine and noticed they brought a bottle with a different year. The waitress mentioned it was still a good wine without charging less or suggesting to look again at the menu. The dinner was disappointing. Small portions of food which should thus be tasty but the quality of products was not there. Fish looked and tasted as frozen fish. Meat was not tender. All dished were oversalted. Fruits in the desert did not have any taste. Deserts were not good. Big disappointment for the price but we had it included in the price of the room. They mentioned AA Rosette but it was in 2016. Breakfast eggs royal did not taste great. We also took pancakes they did not taste as pancake. Extremely disappointed. Bad experience and won't recommend this hotel because you can find better place to stay in this area.

Tired Lakes Hotel in need of an update.
We booked a deluxe room, Dinner & Breakfast for my birthday treat; there was nothing remotely deluxe about room11. The welcome piece of shortbread was the size of a 10 pence piece. Water stain on ceiling as you walked in, old frumpy furniture and a lumpy bed. The room smelt musty and the bathroom, whilst clean, was as old as the hills. I do not like to see silicone in the shower which has gone black in the corners or the fact the cubicle was wedged into the skirting to get it to fit in the corner, giving you limited space in the shower cabinet. The bar area looked newer then anywhere else in the building but at £24 for 3 G&Ts and some hard wooden stools to sit on, i won't be hurrying back here. The evening meal whilst presented well, lacked seasoning and portions were small. The restaurant lacked ambience, there was music blaring out in the hallway but nothing in the restaurant. The staff to be fair were v. pleasant and cheerful throughout. The breakfast was appalling. Toast to start with, definitely not homemade, tasted like sawdust. My husband had smoked haddock, which came the size of a finger and I had the blueberry pancakes which came as 3 small discs, they were dry and tasteless. We left hungry and disappointed. We will not be back.

This is a VERY special place!
This place is a GEM!! Personal service, exquisite food, extensive wine list, beautiful setting. We were blown away by the quality, particularly of the evening meal. The staff are attentive, professional, not intrusive, and made us feel good. The room details are thoughtful, including the option of nice bright overhead lights if you want them, and good radiators, windows that open, and a gorgeous bathroom. A weekend away in between work-related obligations turned into a very special time indeed. We will definitely be coming back.

This is a fabiulous small hotel with a lovely restaurant serving quality food. The room we stayed in had a beautiful outlook and was very clean. The bathroom was gorgeous. We will definitely return.

Perfect spot in Borrowdale
A perfect spot for a short break in the Lake District. The staff were all lovely and did everything they could be make our stay comfortable. They even lent us a walking map of the area. The bedroom was very comfortable although a little too stuffy overnight but the weather was unusually warm while we were there. The bathroom was fabulous with nice toiletries. The complimentary shortbread went down well with a cup of tea after a long walk. If you are dining in, make sure you try the homemade ravioli. We have already recommended a stay here to our relatives.

Wonderful quiet hotel with excellent service
I can't say enough about my stay. The hotel was in an absolutely gorgeous location. When I opened the window in my room it felt like a scene out of Cinderella with all the birds chirping and the beautiful view. Service was excellent, as was the food ( prepared by the hotel's Chef). The room itself was very clean and I slept really well. If I'm back in Keswick, I will definitely stay here again.
