Nice hotel and staff. Room was a good size and the bathroom was good. Slept really well in the bed although it did get a bit warm in the afternoon and had to leave the windows open to get cool enough to sleep one evening. We enjoyed the breakfasts and had dinner in the bar/restaurant area of the hotel. It's a good bit of a walk to get down towards the port where the IMAX Theater, Ikea and shopping areas are. Would definitely suggest just taking a cab down there and back. The Titanic Exhibit at the Sea Museum was interesting and we happened to be there when a Titanic expert was giving a guided tour, so it was interesting to see the disaster from the point of view of the town where Titanic started it's voyage.

Very good 8.0
Food was lovely
We had a early check in because our room was available. Communication was excellent. Very welcoming. The room was clean and had plenty of fresh towels. the view was just a rooftop but we were only there for one night so did not really matter. Our stay was very pleasant and the food was very good, the continental breakfast had plenty of choice. It could just do with a freshen up such as new carpets, paint job and attention to detail such as working light bulbs, only half of them worked in our room. We did eat at the restaurant in the evening but had to eat in the bar area because they had a function on, it was busy so we did have to wait a while to give our food order, 40 mins but we had an enjoyable evening overall.

Fair 4.0
Good location, nice feel to the hotel in general.
Hotel has new owners so they will hopefully do something about the attic room that we were in (ie give guests the option of taking it or not, if they decide to stay the room should be let at a discount) The head height is awful and you are guaranteed to hit your head during your stay. The bed is uncomfortable as are the pillows, you will also need to keep the heater on all night as the duvet is cheap and thin. The room is not on the central heating system, it has an electric panel heater which was off when we arrived so the room was freezing. The bathroom needs decorating as there is mildew on the walls. We would score the room 2 out of 10. On the plus side, the owners are friendly and the breakfast was excellent.

Comfortable and Cozy
We had a wonderful two night stay at the Blue Keys prior to leaving on a cruise. Matthew and Sylvia were extremely welcoming and helpful. With their assistance, we took a ferry to the Isle of Wight where we spent a most enjoyable day. It is definitely worth while spending multiple days in Southampton. There is lots to do in the area. The food at the Blue Keys is outstanding. Our package included the breakfast hot and cold options. Delicious! We ate both dinners there also and were completely satisfied both nights. The room was clean and well appointed and the bed was comfortable. However, be aware that it it is only a double, not a queen. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Classy pub hotel
First you have to accept this is a pub hotel where you have to climb some steep narrow stairs to your room, you get an old-fashioned key to open the door, and the bar doubles as the reception, the lobby and half the restaurant. If you're ok with that, this is a fabulous place. It's handy for Southampton center, for towns west, and for a long stroll on the common, which is spacious and serene. The rooms are comfortable, with a big fan to keep cool and unusually high-pressure showers. The WiFi is a bit flaky, but good enough for email. The food is really good, with a menu that varies slightly day to day so there's always something new to choose. Try the duck confit or the grilled salmon. Breakfast is a good deal - fresh fruit plus yogurt, or grilled kippers, or full English, or eggs benedict, just five pounds. Can't beat that.
