Terrible service. Don’t do business here!
Our flight (My spouse & I) to Washington DC was cancelled, I called the hotel to cancel and they still charged me for the full cost of what my stay would have been. I told the hotel official that I needed to cancel the reservation. She told me that my request had be well noted and referred me to Hotel.com to discuss my refund option. The official even gave me the number to call hotel.com. Because I was stranded at the airport I missed, a digit in the phone for hotels.com that the Aka white official provided me. I called Aka White House again to verify the phone number that I was provided and I called hotels.com right after and informed them of my cancelled flight as well. I also called American Express from the airport and reported my cancelled flight as well since I booked my flight and hotel with my Amex card. Aka White House told Amex during an Amex inquiry into the matter, that I didn’t deserve a refund because they had no records that I had called them about my cancelled flight. Amex told me all that the needed for me to receive a refund back on my card was proof that I called Aka White House because the hotel had me down as a no show. Amex refunded me for my cancelled airfare ticket but didn’t refund me for the almost $500 Aka White House charge because the hotel didn’t have proof that I called them.

A series of small things.
There seems to be a problem with how Expedia links to AKA's booking system. I booked and pre-paid for 4 nights with Expedia, After my third night I received AKA's checkout card. The front desk was able to add the 4th night, fortunately there was still room in the hotel! However the fourth night was added at a rate above what I had pre-paid so at checkout I was presented with a bill for the difference. This was obviously wrong but the front desk is not empowered to make adjustments so had to call the hotel on my return home to have the bill corrected. The manager immediately did so and was quite nice about it but 1) these errors shouldn't happen 2) front desk should have authority to make corrections 3) I shouldn't have to call the manager for such a basic issue. The room is very much like what is shown in the pictures, bathrooms are a bit dated but functional, the bedrooms are fine, living/dining is spacious and well organized. Wood floors are great for hygiene but can noisy - hope that your upstairs neighbor wears slippers because you will hear them otherwise. I did however get the feeling that the hotel was heavily focused on costs. Yes there are tissues in the room but it's a bit of a treasure hunt to find them (hidden in the medicine cabinet). Having a couple packets of salt and pepper as well as a dishcloth in a room with a kitchen seems like basic amenities which cost next to nothing but that the hotel chooses not to provide.

Our first night was a sleepless one due to the location of our room. Due to the discounted rate we received from Hotels.com we were placed behind the elevators which make quite a bit of noise. We asked to be moved to another room located away from the elevators which costed us an additional $240 for our stay. If you can get past the noise of the elevators the rooms are clean and well-kept. A few downfalls of the room would be no safe, the tub is quite high to get into, the showerhead has extremely wide spray so kind of difficult to rinse long thick hair. The walls are not well insulated so you can hear your neighbors if they are loud. There is no breakfast offered for the morning, no snack bar or vending machine for purchasing small items, it would be nice if they would supply coffee, dish soap, laundry soap and fabric softener to use the amenities in the room. Overall we had a great trip the amenities in the room came in very handy, just remember to bring your own supplies. The hotel staff was very pleasant and accommodating to our requests. The location is convenient for sightseeing, and surrounded by many restaurants. We would definitely stay here again.

Fair 4.0
The overall stay was average. The front desk staff were friendly, and the lobby decor was contemporary with a lovely fragrance. However, when we stepped out of the elevator to the third floor of our room (307), we were shocked between the disparity of this floor and the lobby. Upon entering the room, it smelled as if something was recently fried in the room. We opened up all the windows to air out the room for the night, but closed them at 5 AM when the A/C units kicked on and startled us to death from a deep slumber. We informed Roger at the front desk of the unpleasant smell. I asked if he had air freshener, and he gave me the can of air freshener at the front desk. The the toilet ran constantly, and the shower dripped when turned off. If we did not prepay for the stay, we would have checked out immediately to find another hotel in the vicinity. Unsure the condition of the rooms on the other floors, but I highly recommend the refacing of the third floor and our room. The lobby and room depiction on Orbitz is very misleading. I was apprehensive of using a website like Orbitz, as I was skeptical of the true depiction of the hotel. I will say that this stay was underwhelming, and this is the first and last time that I will use Orbitz for travel-related bookings.

Property is great, service is meh
We stayed in AKA White House for 5 nights in July 2018. Pros: Great location, room was large, spacious and perfect for a large family with kids. Cons: If you are looking for 5-star service, you won't get it here. We are used to going to places like the Langham, Ritz Carlton, etc, where service is impeccable and all hotel employees treat their guests like GUESTS. The AKA White House was just meh .... not completely rude, but certainly not warm, welcoming and helpful. Parking was awful as well - The hotel's own valet service company employee literally honked and yelled at us, while we were trying to get into the hotel's lot after hours. So basically, folks need to make a decision - what's most important to you : location/space or service.
