Room size, cost and description.
I paid for a family room and a double room. The family room was more expensive, smaller, and with one double and one single bed. The double room also had a double.and single bed. I was not impressed. The children had to sleep together which is NEVER ideal. Fortunately there was only one adult in the room.

The Birch was the perfect hotel for us as we were visiting our Aunty who was not well and staying at the Hospital across the road. Staff very friendly and made to feel very welcomed.

Just reminded us of the benefits of staying in a good hotel rather than bed and breakfast. Warm, comfortable with excellent and friendly service. We could not fault The Birch Hotel.

Very pleasant Christmas stay
My stay at The Birch Hotel (Christmas Eve & Christmas Day) was perfectly fine. Check in was quick and easy after having paid on, and clear instructions about specific Christmas food times (different to normal) were provided by reception. I didn't take any meals at the hotel, so can't speak for food or service quality there. The room itself was great. A nice spacious room with a double bed and a bathroom that looked fairly recently newly renovated (or kept in very good condition by the cleaners). There was a nicely stocked tea and coffee tray including decaf tea and coffee, fruit tea, hot chocolate, and chocolate cookies. Plus as it was Christmas, there was a mince pie, clementine and Christmas card waiting in the room on arrival. The walls are a little thin, and it's very easy to hear the rumblings of TV and conversations in adjoining rooms, but that's not a major concern unless you get particularly loud neighbours. I will definitely consider staying here again if I am in the area.

The Birch rooms were clean and tidy with pristine bedding and good decoration. There was a hairline crack in the toilet basin and the room could be improved with a better remote control for the TV that has a guide button as opposed to having to scroll through every single channel to find the one you want. The staff were all very polite and particular mention must go to Diana who served us our evening meal. Her demeanour and willingness to help throughout the evening was a credit to the hotel and made the breif stay very enjoyable.
