Hostal Suites Alhambra
All you could need and reasonably priced
I can't help but be a bit gushing about this little gem of a hotel. Stayed here three times now, and I've never had any problems. The staff are always at hand and will do their utmost best to accommodate your needs. It is right in the middle of Madrid, less than two minutes walk from Sol. Breakfast is provided in the form of a voucher you redeem at a very pleasant restaurant around the corner. Rooms are comfy, spacious and well presented. I'll be returning in April next year!

Not for the light sleepers
The hotel itself is an average 3 star, we had a private suite, and the room is large and the bathroom is new and pretty. However the walls are paper thin, I am not a light sleeper and yet I woke up several times during the night, whenever another guest opened or closed their room doors, when people walked on the corridor, I could even hear people's conversations from the room adjacent. I made a complaint to the reception but understandably they can't do much, I then sent a complaint to their head office but they never bothered to acknowledge it. Overall I don't recommend it unless you can sleep through an earthquake.

Two visits so far, and more to come
About a minute walk from Puerta Del Sol, at the very heart of Madrid, this Hostal is wonderfully placed for access to pretty much everything you could possibly want from a trip to the Spanish capital. It doesn't take long to get anywhere from here. The staff are friendly and are to hand 24 hours a day. You get a voucher in the mornings for free breakfast from a local restaurant En Busca Del Tiempo which consists of a large slice of rustic toast with a selection of toppings, and access to a breakfast buffet of cheeses, tortilla, cured meats, cereal, fruit, yogurt, cakes and pastries, and a coffee (a very robust coffee) to wash it down. The rooms are spacious and clean, with modern decor, an en suite, high ceilings, air conditioning, television, free wifi, safe and hair dryer. Being two floors up helps with sound proofing, and I barely knew I was in the heart of Madrid with respect to noise. I've been to this hostal twice, and I am likely to return

Great location.
Hotel is in a great location, though the frontage of the hotel can be improved upon. It was located right next to shops that have closed down, with graffiti in the front. You enter through a doorway after pressing a buzzer, and go up a lift to the 2nd floor, then you will see the reception to the hotel. The room was comfortable but the bed was way too small. There was only a pillow each, though on request they provided us with an extra pillow.

Second stay here and consistently excellent whilst conveniently located. Despite the slightly foul and unpleasant odor upon entering the building (smell does not effect the actual hotel itself, you just need to walk past it to enter the hotel)- everything else is perfect and lovely service with a smile.
