We stayed in the hotel Dieu for 5 nights. As is the case with many luxury hotels, the check in can be a little impersonal. We felt we were talking to a robot. We noticed, however, that on subsequent visits to the reception desk, other staff were much more approachable. We had booked a room without a view towards the port which we later changed to a room with a balcony and a view. Both rooms were large and well equipped, the balcony was particularly comfortable. I am very uncertain it warranted the price tag. The choice for breakfast was good but it never varied over the five days. That's unusual for a luxury hotel. There were 2 aspects we did not like about the breakfast arrangements. You were not allowed to choose your own table (why not?) and you had to wait for the waiters to get more coffee or tea. The waiters did come immediately but why not allow guests to get their own? Getting to the breakfast buffet was also an obstacle course. There is an indoor swimming pool which is big enough to swim in, albeit for just 2 people. However, again, it was an obstacle course to reach it. You had to take one lift to the spa reception, give your room number and then another lift to get to the pool. This sounds easy until you realise that the pool is on ground level and you could walk there easily from the terrace. Is this to prevent people from using the pool too much? Hotel Dieu is in a wonderful position, right in the centre. You have to be mobile to scale the steps.
