Go for the Suite!
We chose this Hotel in Cusco because of its balcony and fabulous outlook on to the main sguare in Cusco (see photo). The room is actually directly opposite the cathedral. There is only one suite with this view but one triple bed room also faces out with its own small balcony. The room needed some attention - the bathroom basin did not drain properly, 3 out of 4 bulbs in the sitting area were broken, the TV aerial lead fell apart when the screen was moved slightly. This is simply slack management. The staff we met were very friendly and helpful. We were able to print off boarding passes with ease and at no charge. The breakfast was reasonably good. What the El Virrey has is position, right in the city centre, with a short walk to most attractions. We would definitely book there again, providing we were able to have a room with a view.

Great hotel. Wonderful stafff
I would recommend this hotel. It is in a great location on the city's beautiful main square and the hotel is set in an historic building full of character. The room was comfortable and clean. Everything about the hotel was good. Maybe the hotel's biggest asset were its staff - the morning and night staff at the reception were all charming, professional and very helpful. We left at 4am for a trek (i.e. before the breakfast) and without asking the staff had prepared breakfast bags for us to take along. I would strongly recommend the hotel.

Great hotel and location
I loved staying at this hotel but it might not be for everyone. If you get a room that faces Plaza de Armas the views will be awesome but crowd noise may keep you up or early morning delivery trucks may wake you up. If noise is an issue for you, the early rising adventurers who walk down the creaky stairs may also disrupt your sleep. The hot water never ran out which definitely wasn’t the experience of some travelers I talked to had, who were staying in Airbnb places. The breakfast area in the basement is nice and the food was tasty and plentiful. If anything ran low the nice lady working the buffet would get me whatever I wanted. When it was time to finally leave the lady at the front desk called me a taxi (rather than having to deal with the crazy line of them our in the square) and it only cost me s20 rather than the s35 I was charged on the way in.
