Very good 8.0
Lovely sized room
Lovely sized room with a great view over the canal. It's wooden floors throughout so you can hear the room above very clearly. The Wi-Fi worked fine and the staff were lovely. The rooms are on a quieter stretch of the canal so no loud bars nearby (not that we heard anyway).

Poor 2.0
Great location, but over priced and no sleep
The hotel is positioned perfectly on 7 streets area, really nice part of town. The hotel itself was awful. I did not sleep for either of the two nights I booked, I barely got 5 hours in total over 48 hours. The entire hotel has wooden floors. It is a beautiful building, but you can hear every foot step, especially if your room is in-between two stairs! Not even a landing, room 1012 should be offered out for free. I could hear every conversation in the reception, everyone coming in throughout the night and someone from the hotel staff running up and down the stairs on the last night as someone on the top floor was setting the fire alarm off. If you stay here, make sure you put this in your booking comments, and if they give you this room just outright decline. The bed was a sandpit, you sunk so deep and the mattress topper is loose so you can slide off if you are restless, like I was. I was also a single traveller, I was not too confident to open the window as there was no option to have a small gap to get air in, but instead two huge windows enough to get a bed through. I gave my comments to reception on my departure and I was given empathy but they were in total agreement with me. For the price paid, I would rather be located less central and get a better laid out considered hotel.

AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!
I have been coming to Amsterdam every month for 10 years. I have stayed in pretty much every hotel in Amsterdam. I urge you not to stay at this hotel. I had booked it before, and hated it. Miserable service, insects in bathtub and windows (see photos). But they have put up new wallpaper (no other refurbishments I could see), so I did not recognise that it was the same hotel when booking. Booked three nights via Hotels.com, admittedly on a non-refundable rate. When my wife saw it later that day, she remembered, and called Hotels.com to cancel. Hotels.com called the hotel, and they refused to refund. When we got there, we offered to pay the first night in full, if they allowed us to leave the next day. They flat refused, in the rudest manner possible. I told them that it would be a stupid decision, as it would only result in a bad review for them online, but they could not care less, and would prefer to take the few hundred euros. Got to room and remembered why I had hated it the first time. Insects crawling in the bathroom. When I complained, the guy asked me "oh, how many are there? If it's one, it doesn't matter" Awful place, worst beds I have EVER slept in, abominable wifi, nowhere to even hang clothes! Just a really run down student-halls type place. Only stay here if you are on a stag do or something. This is clearly who they are catering to, as they demand a 50 Euro note off you as deposit. Just, please, for your own sake, do not stay here.

Exceptional 10.0
Canal Boutique Rooms
This is a great hotel in a perfect location for discovering central Amsterdam. Staff are very friendly & helpful. Rooms are very comfortable, was lucky enough to stay on the top floor that offered a great view of the canal and 9 Streets area.
