Avoid at all costs
Really bad. You can hear the motorway and people walking to/from their cars. The room is cold, damp and inhabitable. Needs attention. IHG are running it, they have their dirty mattresses on their beds! So bad! Avoid!

Does the job
Stayed one night before attending a conference down the road in Hinxton - very convenient for me as right next to a train station and a shuttle bus goes to the conference venue from there. Overall a fine stay, room was very small and a few things could probably be better maintained but the place was clean and staff were helpful. A bit strange having to check in and have breakfast in the Holiday Inn next door and very odd having no staff around and door closed first thing in the morning - was a bit afraid I was going to be locked out when I came back from breakfast. Also be warned if you are travelling without a car there is very little within walking distance.

Don’t bother
Customer service at pub terrible-told that there was notice on door to go to adjacent hotel to get key no offer to look after disgusting very expensive for frozen food! Bed terrible small /no bedside lamps/mirror to far away to dry hair in /although shower was good too powerful for tiny cubicle and risk of flooding-one window no catch on -dangerous ,ceiling lampshade falling apart and dirty cups.we booked 2 nights for a special occasion but refused to spend anymore time than necessary and booked a wonderful place ( cheaper) and more luxurious with fabulous food The red lion classed our room as regency -in there dreams basically don’t waste your money !!!!

The Red Lion looks very appealing on its website On arrival, the check in l took over 15 minutes. The receptionist told us we hadn’t paid in advance, using a rather accusational tone. and when I showed her the receipt and credit card statement she just shrugged. There was no apology for her error. She then couldn’t find the keys. At the Red Lion, one of our three rooms was unfit for purpose (blocked drain, broken flush) so one of our party was moved to the Holiday Inn. My room had a dirty toilet and lots of dust behind the bedside table. I didn’t notice this until I awoke in the night so it eas too late to complain. We booked for dinner. Despite phoning the day before our name wasn’t on the list, although it didn’t matter as the restaurant was devoid of customers. We soon found out why… We ordered drinks ten minutes before the food, but they arrived after we’d nearly finished the starters. The starters (halloumi and squid) were soggy and if a quality I’d expect from the Iceland budget range. Two main courses were served five minutes before our third main course arrived. We then tried to get attention to order a second round of drinks, but the staff were just playing with their phones. No one seems to care at this place…..
