Abysmal experience at a luxury hotel at high price
I rarely have time to write a review, but this expense warrants one. I travel all over the world for pleasure and business, stay in hotels of various star ratings from a guest house in Bali to 5 star hotels in NYC. In all my time I have never encountered such an abysmal experience. Thing went south from the get go. I had to wait for over 30 minutes to speak to a person at checkin when there was literally only one person ahead of me. I know that could happen in a hotel like Marriott in NYC around checkout time when there are 50 people trying to check out, but there was really no apparent reason here. I don’t think I have ever waited that long to check in. Finally, when I was able to approach the checkin counter at around 6:30pm, I was told that the room that I have booked 6 months in advance is not available and they would only be able to check me in at 10pm on New Years Eve! I asked if I heard this correctly as that did not make any sense as the check in is at 3pm. How could that be possible if I had a confirmed booking at a premium hotel with a $400 a night room price tag. They said sorry we can’t help you can you please stand aside so I can help the next person… I was so shocked that I did not even know what to say. I only had one night in Singapore and I wanted to watch the sunset from my beautiful suite and go explore the city ASAP instead of dealing with this nonsense. It was for that exact purpose that I.... and there is not enough space to write a proper revi

My check-in was processed by a staff (Shi Mei) at approx 1330H. When the check in timing of the hotel says 1400H and the check out is 1200H, I would expect some rooms to be ready by 1330H. The staff was not empathetic and lacks service attitude in my opinion. When I told her that my luggage was quite heavy and I would appreciate the room to be ready so that I can unload my luggage, she kept trying to convince me to come back later at 2 pm and said that she could give me a room if I wait for 15 mins, which I did. For most hotels that I went to, the staff would approach the customer to inform them that the room is ready and hand them the key cards and such. The staff did not bother to update me. I have to go back to the receptionist abt 20 mins later to enquire on the status. Is this a service expected from Carlton City Hotel? After checking in, I noticed that hair was left in the toilet. The soap and shampoo available in the toilet were miserably little. There was also no shaver provided. Isn't shaver a basic item to provide?

Warning don't read this if you want a nice review.
Staying at the Carlton City Hotel - Singapore was somewhat of a disappointment. Overall they are far to expensive for the room provided. Front desk tried to pull some classic BAIT and SWITCH they first make sure they take the full payment and then say "Ohhh the room you booked we don't have any left (yes - we did let them know we'd be a late check in), I guess that just opened the door to "ohhh they won't care/mind" and no it wasn't like we'll upgrade you it was like we'll move you into the right room tomorrow, if it's free. I thought this was a Malaysian kind of party trick, but now I see it in Singapore, and I thought Singapore took a dim view of this kind of behaviour, bringing them into disrepute. Fortunately we moved to another Carlton, which was much more Ritzy, (where they don't have a list of prices for if you happen to accidental break something, They DON'T STEAL A SECURITY DEPOSIT at all, and they don't TAKE THEIR TIME GIVING IT BACK (THEY STILL HAVEN'T) So now I'm worried I've been scammed by Carlton and in reality WOTIF, as they enable HOTELS to get away with this kind of ridiculous behaviour! Overall I'd say this place is "abysmal" 2 star at best, there are a heap of places just as good or better in the neighbourhood choose somewhere better, or cheaper or just nicer.

    Triple Room
In spite of the issue we had regarding our triple room this hotel still deserves a 5 rating. It's location worked very well for us. The MRT station Tanjong Pagar is just around the corner and as the underground system is so efficient and easy to use, you can get to most of the tourist sites very quickly. The hotel is surrounded by shops, bakeries, a Post Office and places to eat. The hotel room was quiet both from neighbouring rooms and from outside. The hotel pool is of a great size and spotlessly clean. We enjoyed breakfast every day with a great choice to cover all tastes. We especially liked the wonderful fluffy scrambled eggs. Our room was cleaned every day to a really high standard and facilities in the room (iron & board, hairdryer, fridge, kettle with tea & coffee) excellent. The early check in after a long flight was welcome. We made good use of the handy smartphone, which was great as internet coverage is expensive. The only downside for us was that we had booked (paying for 3 adults) a Triple Deluxe room for ourselves and our teenage daughter. This consisted of a double bed with a third 'temporary' bed squeezed into the room. The additional bed would have been suitable for a child, but was too small for an adult. This meant that there was very little room between the beds and that the double bed was moved away from the headboard. The double bed was huge though and really comfortable. Overall we were really happy with our hotel choice.

    Very good 8.0
    Perfect location and clean hotel.
Cleanliness of room- the room was clean enough. Bed was too soft for me. hotelQuality of service-there are only 4 guest lifts and probably half of the time we needed to wait for a long time to get a lift which was a little annoying but not major. Hotel amenities-i am usually a big fan of these little miniatures especially shampoo/conditioners and stuff but not these ones in Carlton city. Bodylotion provided in the room when we checked in was half used. We stayed 3 night. Amenities were not replaced/provided necessarily every day. Had no shampoo conditioner or body was provided on last day but I didn't bother requesting because these ones weren't the nicest ones. I just used my own. Hotel location-more than perfect. There is a supermarket decent sized just right across the hotel. Apparently there is a subway station near the hotel but we mostly used Grab if we wanted to go some tourist attractions and Grab wasn't expensive . A lot of nice restaurants and bars around the hotel. Maxwell food centre is within walking distance and I think we went there almost every day! Overall. I would definitely stay again here if I have a chance. The issues I just raised were kinda all minor and good aspects including cleanliness and location easily cover up these negative sides.
