This pub should not be letting out rooms
If I could give a zero score I would. We booked this pub as it was close to where we needed to be for the weekend. The description looked good and the food menu looked good. It also stated that they served breakfast. On arrival we were greated by a sign saying drinks only and were told the kitchen was closed including for breakfast. We were taken to room 4 and we then had to complain as it was dirty, had human hair in the bed, the bedding smelled musty, there was a shower puff and half used bottle of shower gel in the shower and the bin was full of rubbish from the previous occupants. There was a serious health and safety issue with the electrical sockets in the room with one broken and both having exposed wires. We were moved to another smaller cheaper room and were told they would refund the difference in cost ( which did not happen). Initially we thought this room ok but found the shower drain full of hair, a damaged toilet seat and a blood smear on the tiles in the bathroom. The stairs leading to the rooms were filthy with stained carpets and dust but even worse the smoke alarm seemed to have been removed. The door to the stairs had a key pad for security but always seemed to be left unlocked. After our first night in the second room there was no housekeeping with cleaning, fresh towels or replenishment of the coffee tray. When we went to check out the reception was locked and we could not raise the manager by knocking on her door.

2/10 Poor

The pub was "closed" on Mondays (not announced on Expedia) and after knocking on the door someone emerged several minutes later expecting I would still stay - ie no food options in a cold building. Very strange way to run a business! Hoping I get my money returned....An old building with character, back garden and carpark messy so the overall initial impression was not good.

Worth a visit
Excellent friendly and accommodating staff - beautiful setting and building - rooms need abit of a refurb as tired and shabby but considering the place has just been taken over by a couple just about to embark on the project can't really complain. Enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back
