The Deluxe Hotel Vancouver
Good
Overpriced, dated
A small hotel with ground and first floor ; probably 20 odd rooms in total. Complimentary parking in the basement. External look is unappealing being on the main road(Kingsway); reception is small but presentable. Were checked into a large room which was dull. Room had 2 Queen beds as the only room available at the time. Dark brown furniture, walls, carpet and curtains. A free standing air conditioner, no wardrobe. Room smelt musty and had large window at the busy main road level hence lacked privacy. No kettle, but a coffee percolator, which was inadequate for boiling water for tea. Bathroom though small had been renovated recently; had a clean and fresh feel. Staff applied air freshener on request. Next day we moved to a similar room overlooking the side road available with a slightly better colour scheme and new fitted wardrobe area. Reception also offered to see if a kettle was available. After mentioning it again, they kindly provided one on the 3rd day. Wifi in 2nd room was good and cleaning reasonable. This is a basic hotel. Rooms are large, colour scheme varies from room to room but furniture is the same and outdated. Bathrooms all appear to have been renovated. Very comfortable beds with nice white linen. The hotel is quiet, reception and cleaning staff are very polite and helpful. Nearby are a Safeway supermarket, restaurants, launderette. Overall however, we felt hotel is overpriced given room quality and non-downtown location.

Ok but not great
Our stay was ok but not great. No kettle in room although there were tea bags, staff seemed confused as to whether this was an oversight or not something they offered. Windows needed net curtains as they looked over car park and residential housing, suite had lots of space and large tv but no sofa to sit on, just two very formal chairs. Decor looked new but was quite old-fashioned. Beds were clean and comfortable though.

Exceptional
I would have given a five-star rating if not for the very annoying, squeaky bed. Overall, I'm very impressed.

Exceptional
The manager made the stay! Extras like a comb and other toiletries was greatly appreciated. Great to have a bar fridge.

Good Value Overall
Can't beat the central location and friendly front desk. It's a smaller building, like a house in some ways, but with large rooms, classy appointments and some older, unpretentious aspects (older carpet in spots, what sounded like a water heater system dinging and knocking loudly in the walls at night) and good wifi. I was an out-of-towner and they didn't have a lot of recommendations, but you can find all that online anyway, and they were great about taking my comments about the heating system making noise at night, which I used headphones for in a semi-successful way. It might have just my room (209), so if you're a light sleeper maybe call first to see where the system is the quietest. A good value overall.
