Disappointing for family of 5
Upon arrival it was disappointing that there was significant construction that woke us by 7am each weekday.Valet parking was $45 per night however if you self parked in the garage under the hotel it cost $30 per night.The walkway/elevator from garage to hotel lobby was full of trash waiting to be picked up and smelled.The hotel seemed old and was not exactly clean. Floor hallways were littered with trash during our entire three day stay.Staff used the 2 VERY slow elevators to move large bins of trash and laundry which forced guests to wait for another elevator.We always had to wait one/two elevators for room for our family of 5. Our room key was not effective to use the elevator and we often missed our floor. The onsite dining was ok but expensive. The nearby Giant was conveniently located. For some reason we were placed in a handicap room and it was very spacious.The walk in shower had no place to put toiletries other than the floor and the use of a metal laundry stand was tacky for towels.We were planning to use the pullout full sofa and were disappointed that the bottom of the couch cushions were stained and appeared dirty. The mattress was not comfy.Hoping to relax on the outdoor patio was also disappointing. Only one firepit and the seating was stained and worn.This hotel is within two blocks of the yellow/green metro line however the walk is through a very urban area.Sirens could be heard multiple times each day/night.If traveling to D.C. again we would NOT stay here.

Locked out!
While the hotel is in a fairly convenient location, the staff proved clueless when needed. My son, son-n-law and I came back on a Saturday night after a long day walking the national mall, only to find our room key not working. We tried the key several times and finally had to go to the lobby and ask help from the front office staff. The staff behind the counter seemed like they were not sure what to do, and the maintenance person was ill-equipped to help. The problem was the battery on the room lock had died and no one knew what to do. There was a zero contingency plan. Their answer was "no one can help you until tomorrow morning." Yes you heard that right, they wanted us to wait until the morning to get into our room because no one there had a clue what to do and the maintenance person was new to the job. His supervisor could not be reached. I really believe the staff was afraid to make any decisions, which I am sure reflects the attitude of the management. When you are afraid to make a decision, you don't. This ordeal started at around 10pm and around 2am they finally got us into our room, and then provided us with a new room. I'm sorry but I could not recommend this hotel. The staff is clueless and not helpful. The bar staff is very good and we were offered a drink for our inconvenience. I go to D.C. a couple of times a year and will never stay here again.

This hotel is very modern, and decorated aesthetically pleasing. It is however, about a 20 min walk from Smithsonian hot spots. Our experience with Cambria was a roller coaster ride. I called the morning of our expected arrival to see if an early check in was available, when the operator put me on hold for 20 mins before coming back to tell me it would be an additional wait. Upon arrival, the front desk staff were always pleasant and informative. This location also has a rooftop deck that has beautiful views of the city at sunset. Housekeeping was TERRIBLE. Housekeeping alone is the deciding factor for the 2 stars and us never booking with Cambria again. We booked a Suite with pull out couch. I had requested for the couch to be set up for the night. After about 7 hours away, the couch was still not set. Calling down to front desk, the front desk was highly apologetic and sent up someone immediately. However said person came up pulled couch out, laid sheets down. asked if I would want pillows and with me saying yes, he rolled his eyes. Day 2. We were away between the hours of 830AM-after 5pm. Housekeeping never came to service our room. I informed front desk, no big deal. We would be leaving for dinner shortly, Just wanted to let my kids rest for about 30 min. Housekeeping came at that moment. When asked if we could possibly get 30 minutes, SHE SAID NO and pushed a paper schedule in my face. I had no choice but to leave OUR room. Next morning.

Terrible stay. Cambria did not have the reservation I booked through Hotels.com and the front desk staff person made no effort to contact a manager or other staff that might help resolve the problem. I was only offered a room at $300/night or nothing else. No sympathy or compassion whatsoever from the front desk. I was eventually able to resolve the booking problem through Hotels.com and I hold them ultimately accountable, but based on what I learned I believe the Cambria staff failed to book the room when they were originally contacted by Hotels.com when I booked. At check in, my room smelled and bathroom smelled of sewer (two different odors); cheap $5 toilet seat that barely stayed up; badly cracked tile in shower; couch in room looked like 5000 people had sat in it and was disgusting; tried called housekeeping one early evening to get some items not refilled on my 2nd night and let the phone ring for a long time on two calls with no answer, did the same with the front desk and also no answer. Had to go to the front desk in person to ask for what I needed. Hotel has poorly designed RFID key access to each floor in the elevators. It's a shame they have so many issues, because the hotel has a really nice fitness center; beautiful view of the city from the rooftop; easy access to Convention center Metro; and is right next door to a full size Giant grocery store.

Clean affordable luxury close to DC's attractions
As parents this was our weekend getaway. The staff took care of getting us checked in quickly and even offered a complimentary drink at the bar. The lobby was clean and the modern decor was very nice. From the elevator to the room we couldn't be happier with our choice to stay here. The room was luxurious and with the bed separated from the "lounge" space it felt like we had escaped to our own little private oasis. Even though the bathroom did not have a tub it did offer a spa like shower that had a nice rain water spout. There is a Starbucks right next to the hotel that we took advantage everyday and a grocery store right around the corner that has quite the extensive wine and beer selection. Monuments and museums were only a 15 to 17 minute scenic walk away. I recommend walking if the weather permits it was nice to take everything in. The hotel offers valet parking with a $45 fee per night. Among an indoor pool and gym there is a rooftop lounge where they have music playing through speakers and fire pits that are surrounded by comfortable couches. The only downside is the fire was not lit the night we went up there but I am confident that the hotel would have lit them had we asked. Upon check out we had some issues with our bank trying to flag every transaction (even after telling them we were traveling) but the staff was very patient and kind while waiting for us to get things sorted. I highly recommend this hotel for it's inexpensive luxury that it offers.
