8/10 Very good

Very nice hotel but more suited to connoisseurs of food ,which was exceptional with prices to match. With only the al a carte menu I’m not sure it suit the average holiday maker unless eating out elsewhere most days. I spent over £350 for six evening dinners excluding wine. Sometimes after a days walking you just want steak and chips not a very prettily decorated plate as tasty as it maybe it’s not going to satisfy your hunger. I’m not knocking the food it was absolutely delicious but every night with no wholesome alternatives? Not for everyone. Save it for your 50th anniversary not a base camp for exploring Devon.

Nice country hotel with a reasonable restaurant for dinner and very nice breakfast Restaurant overlooks well kept gardens and it would have been lovely to eat alfresco on the terrace had the May weather been kinder. Comfortable room with good tea/coffee making facilities….. fresh milk in the refrigerator every day which was a nice touch. Comfortable shared sitting room in the main house. We stayed 3 nights this quiet hotel mid-May and had an enjoyable stay. Parking was easy. We ate one night at The Cornish Arms in Tavistock ( 10 min drive) which can be recommended.

Very comfortable hotel with amazing views Receptionist when we arrived on Saturday afternoon 8/06 was very hospitable and friendly. . I didn’t take her name but she made our anniversary stay feel very special.

8/10 Very good

Liked the hotel set in quiet country location, room was spacious and clean with all amenities you would expect. Bed was very comfortable, and excellent power shower although we were informed on check in that the bathroom window was broken and couldn’t be opened. Both dinner and breakfast were fine on the quality but lacking in quantity; very small portions. Other customers were also commenting on this issue at dinner. Whilst the service overall was ok the service at breakfast was very slow and extra toast ordered was forgotten with the waitress offering a lacklustre apology and we weren’t asked how our stay was at checkout which is something I would expect to be asked after a stay at this type of hotel.

Great hotel and well worth the money. Amazing food. This wasn't quite the same value for money as our room. The portions were small and hardly any vegetables. We had a small double room. It didn't feel small. The bed was huge and we also had a balcony. I would recommend this hotel.

We had a great stay at the Horn of Plenty! It’s a beautiful country house hotel set in rural country side with spectacular views of the Tamar Valley from every room. The dining room was lovely - very open plan and with floor to ceiling glass sliding doors . The dinner menu was very adventurous and although it wasn’t the kind of food you would choose to eat every night, was quite a gastronomic experience. The closest we have been to Michelin starred food… ! Breakfast was a treat too with an extensive and delicious menu. The bedroom was very spacious and comfortable with a huge bathroom and good amenities. We will definitely be back!

2/10 Poor

There was a hair in my main meal. I have never had this before but am sure the Manager should not pick it up in their 2 fingers, examine it & then ask if I would like something else. They should have taken the plate & looked at it, I lost all appetite with the Manager stood there with the human long dark hair in his fingers! I have stayed her previously & was not impressed with this stay. I wish I took a photo’ of the blueberries at breakfast - the bad ones had not been removed from the serving dish. Some of us were missing breakfast the next day & asked for a picnic. That was a croissant, butter & jam with a piece of fruit. Guess what that croissant was like in the morning! We had fridges in our rooms - a sandwich would have faired better. All fur coat & no knickers.
