Refused check in at the hotel
I walked into the hotel shortly after 3pm to try to check in only to be stopped at the entrance by a very aggressive and unpleasant member of their staff who told me I couldn’t stay there before he even asked for my name or reservation number. He blamed Hotels.com for making the wrong reservation and was rudely told to go away and find another place to stay. The experience left me feeling shaken, humiliated and belittled. I will NEVER use Hotels.com or The Strand Hotel in Eastbourne again.

AVOID BOOKING
Doesn’t even deserve 1 star. The worst experience and staff. I booked a room for 22nd October 2022 but when I arrived, there was a man sitting at a desk refusing our stay despite people coming in and out of the hotel. They handed us a number to call (The hotel number) and all they did was cut the phone on me. I then had to find a last minute room at one of the other hotels along the seafront. They told us that the Strand is being used to house refugees but are still taking bookings and have been refusing all bookings and refusing refunds. I still haven’t been able to get through to the hotel property. The staff at the door were rude and the man I spoke to on the phone was even ruder and dropped the call once I mentioned that I wanted a refund. I also think it’s wrong that online bookings are still active on sites when all they’re doing is taking your money and refusing your stay.

A no no!
Check-in was very easy and the receptionist was pleasant. Room was clean and bed comfortable enough. It was really hot in the room while outside was cooler it no air circulating in the room and the top window could only be opened a tiny bit. Fire doors slammed and people shouting coming in and out at any time at night. Not recommended at all. Very very noisy and too hot everywhere in the hotel

Poor!
I arrived at the hotel and was told that I needed to pay £1 by card in order to pay a deposit (I don’t believe this was mentioned when booking the hotel) - I didn’t have my card on me so I wasn’t able to access my room until a friend paid the £1 using his card. When I got to the room, the smell was unbelievable - it smelt like someone had just been to the toilet in there. The room was old-fashioned, and I ended up not staying the night due to how bad it was.

Narnia wardrobe toilet and shower, disappointing
Although hotel clean, room very disappointing, toilet and shower were in the ends of a wardrobe, very very tiny, no room for movement especially in the shower, could only just close the door to have a shower, not good for people who are bigger than size 18!! Almost had to walk in backwards to use the toilet. Curtains very tatty all ripped down the edges. First night fire alarm set off at 1.30am, no apologies for this or explanation. We booked to pay at hotel on arrival due to Covid as stated on hotels.com websire but OYO tried to take the money at 1am on Sunday morning before the day we were supposed to arrive and had to deal with call from Fraud Team with my bank, when explained to hotelier they said OYO always take the money the day before and we were lucky they didn't cancel our booking. No food facilities available although restaurant and bar was nicely decorated. Unfortunately if it wasn't for the beautiful weather the days of our stay we would have left.
