    Fabulous 8.8 From 146 reviews

    Very good 8.0
    Very comfortable and quiet.
We were very lucky that we were able to check into our cottage at 10am, when we arrived, as we were totally wasted after not sleeping on the plane, and driving in the dark to the cottages. (Thank you, thank you, thank you to the management for allowing us to check in so early, versus the 4pm standard check-in time.) The cottage was all warmed up (we finally realized that it was too warm, and turned off a couple of the radiators) when we arrived, and everything was really nice and clean and tidy. When we did have a problem (shower didn't drain), the management fixed it while we were sightseeing, and then we didn't have anymore issues. Since the clouds covered the skies most of the time, and the moon was bright the other days, we didn't get to see the aurora borealis. Timing is everything. We didn't try the restaurant. We did make extensive use of the kitchen facilities. The wifi worked very well for us on our computers and phones. (Our cottage was #26). I did jump into the spa during one of the nights. I know that there were others staying there, but it was always nice and quiet both inside the cottages, and outside. It was very icy when we were there, so just have to be super careful walking in the parking lot area. The walks between the cottages were all clear of snow and ice. Very cost effective. Big super markets exist in 20-minutes away Selfoss, and a good mart just 14 minutes up route 37, so didn't have to go into Selfoss returning home from Geysir.

Horrible TV and Hot Tub wouldnt get hot.
It was cute upon entering, the beds were a bunk bed style so it was hard to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom with my husband and I sharing the bottom twin bed. The TV was very old and the channels we did receive we're covered by a giant no signal sign on the screen. This was disappointing considering the cottage right across from us had a large, working flat screen TV. We were excited to stay here and chose it for the Jacuzzi, which was filled for us when we arrived. The temp was only 33C, so we switched the knob to make it hotter and the temp actually dropped to 31. After speaking with someone at the front desk we were told it just takes some time and maybe we should try refilling the tub with fresh water. So we did, and come midnight the temp was still hovering around 32C. This was incredibly frustrating and disappointing as we could have stayed somewhere else cheaper, and actually had a TV to watch or something to do in the local area. In the morning all the woman at the front desk said was "oh, we haven't ever had any other problems with it". You would think when you pay more for something, that it would work and/or be up to date. So overall I'd say we are very unhappy with our stay.

    Exceptional 10.0
    Cool Cabins
We were a party of 3 adults and enjoyed staying in one of the standard cabins. It was not spacious, but the ability to cook our own food in a country where restaurants are quite pricey was a major perk. The hotel staff was amazingly helpful. They offer a very tasty breakfast that is worth the additional cost. The cabins are conveniently located if you are wanting to explore the Golden Circle and the southern coast. But do be aware that although this pops up on Expedia as "Selfoss", the cabins are actually 22 km from the city itself. Not a bad drive, just was unexpected for us. There are lots of grocery stores in Selfoss where you can buy supplies, and the cabins are well-appointed with pans, dishes, etc. They also have some hot tubs on site so that you can enjoy the geothermal heated water. Definitely a nice place for a family to stop.

Favorable: 1. Property looks the same as the pictures 2. Restaurant is legit, large portions 3. Cottages are cozy Unfavorable: 1. Food was SHOCKINGLY expensive, we had meals at very nice restaurants in Iceland which were lower in price and higher in quality, service, ambiance, etc. 2. Food was ill-prepared: ordered the special, grilled lamb - it came out for all of us charred, dry, extra well done, just terrible. We ordered appetizers - the Iceland classics - also not well prepared (we had the same elsewhere and the food was delicious). Overall a YUCK. 3. Either the staff didn't understand or didn't want to understand requests, they were superficially friendly, but in the end not really there to be of service. 4. Internet didn't work at the cottages. 5. Hot tubs not hot - just warm 6. Water in the cottages took FOREVER to heat up 7. Bring your own shampoo & conditioner 8. Lights outside were always on, so it was kind of bright at night. 9. You have to pay for a cup of coffee in the morning and no free refills 10. No one on property at night to help Overall NOT worth the price.

    Very good 8.0
    Well located, quiet and comfy.
Our family of four (all adults) arrived Keflavik (Reykjavik airport) in the early morning, rented a car and headed to the Golden Circle, staying ahead of the tour buses for most of the day. By the time we arrived to Minniborgir Cottages in mid-afternoon, just north of Selfoss and Kerid Crater we were ready to take a nap and recharge. Albeit a bit pricey (as all things are in Iceland), this was a nice place for our family to call home base while on a three day tour of the Iceland interior - the Golden Circle and the South Coast are both easily accessible and Reykjavik is less than an hour away. We were in the larger, two-level cottages that can accommodate up to 8 persons. The cottages are in great shape with kitchenette and two separate double-bed rooms downstairs, plus a loft with two double beds. Nice front porch affording a great view of the countryside and, because it's outside the city, a better chance of seeing the Northern Lights. A big hit was the hot tub, just outside on the deck. There was a nice restaurant and sitting area at the reception room (with good Wifi connection).
