Perfect for short stays
The California is perfectly placed for exploring London or for a stopover en route to the continent via Eurostar. It is directly across the road from Kings Cross St Pancras and walkable within 5 minutes. The hotel is clean, and staff are helpful. Our twin room was small but perfect for our needs, the bathroom was large and very clean. We were next to the stairs and entrance to the lobby which did make for a bit of a noisy evening/night as other guests thumped their suitcases up and down stairs and along the corridor with little regard for other guests but that really isn't the hotels fault! We were able to check in early which was a bonus. We didn't use the bar but it looked nice and the food offers available seemed very reasonable. A perfect hotel for a one or two night stay, maybe a wee bit cramped and noisy for longer stays.

I had a nice little room on the top floor, which was particularly soothing when I got to listen to the rain on the roof in the morning. The staff were very friendly and everything from check in to check out was easy. It's also right across from King's Cross, so incredibly convenient, but still on a quiet little street without a ton of noise.
