Visiting locality
Very pleasant welcome from Sonia (landlady) who showed us to our room. Given keys to come and go as we pleased. Had evening meal in relatively quiet surroundings, went with barmaid's recommendation of steak & ale pie which was delicious, especially home cooked chips. Large bed (two singles) was softer than used to but reasonably comfy. Bathroom small but adequate. Breakfast was good, with plenty of choice and freshly cooked. Not much to see on a walk up the village. Local bus service very limited so not a place to stay without transport. Second night had a further meal which was also very nice. For some reason wet towels had not been removed nor fresh ones supplied (corrected quickly). Bed not remade just duvet pulled up. Bar staff and Sonia all very pleasant and helpful with history of area which we had some experience of. Will use again if we are visiting area as it is quite convenient for Beamish Museum and could use P & R for getting into Durham.

Snowed in but AMAZING STAY!!!! :))))))
Got snowed in at this pub with rooms. Couldn’t have been ‘stuck’ in a better place, what hospitality from Sonia, Ian and Sonia’s friend Julie who was staying at the same time. From helping to dig a path to get in the car park to digging out a path to get out and everything in between I couldn’t have been in a better more friendly place. The food was lovely, plentiful and reasonably priced. Being a lone female contractor it really helped when I couldn’t get into work the following day and Sonia waived the overnight fee as she knew I wouldn’t get paid being self employed. These are the kind of people they are ...wonderful to say the least. I was actually sorry to leave as I felt really looked after. Would not hesitate to recommend this place to stay even if not snowed in! The rooms have everything the business traveller needs and if you were short of something I’m sure Sonia or Ian would sort you out. Looking forward to staying again hopefully this time in the summer....thank you so much for everything you did Sonia, Ian and Julie x
