      Stunning rooms and pool, food is poor for a 5-star

      Good location in the centre of Makati, perfect for business and for leisure travellers alike. Rooftop pool is a delight (if slightly underserved with sunloungers) and the room was cosy yet very well laid out so as to still few spacious and relaxing. The buffet breakfast, which I had on the first day, was unfortunately pretty poor, especially by 5-star standards. Largely tasteless and just a strange selection - no decent fresh bread items or pastries. The food I had at the Firefly rooftop restaurant on the first evening was also poor quality. At least the beer is cheap by Western standards. In my experience food quality is generally a problem in the Philippines, but I wouldn’t expect it at a 5-star hotel aimed with predominantly foreign guests. The next two days I selected items from the room service menu which was marginally better, and cheaper. Be warned you will also spend a lot of waiting for the lift, there are only three serving 32 floors. But the staff are truly fantastic, providing excellent service, and the property itself is lovely - just not quite 5-star until they significantly improve their food offering.

      This has a five star rating on Expedia, which is a little strange (first world problems I know), as room-wise and service-wise it is definitely more in the four star area. The elevator takes forever to function - you can be waiting for several minutes for one to come along and sometimes it goes right by you (for whatever reason). It really is frustrating and it also means a build-up of people waiting on the highest and ground floors. The pool is really small and unless you get in there right at 7am expect it to not be used for exercise but rather by loafing around sexpats and families who are just sitting in it and taking up the space. The hotel, especially as a five star, should really think of investing in an pool for those of us who want some exercise rather than those of us just standing in it and wondering why we are we in Manila in the first place. The Firefly bar up top is, however, remarkable - offering an incredible view over Makati and right down into Manila bay. It is one of the finest views I have ever seen. The front desk staff and especially the young lady at the ground floor coffee bar are lovely, welcoming, kind personalities - really great people who should probably be paid well more and made managers (I am biased too as the coffee seller likes Blackpink). The location is great - it's easy to walk around Makati and it's all very safe (some people said there's a red light district nearby but it's incredibly well policed down that street so you can relax!)

      GREAT HOTEL!

      Excellent hotel in a convenient location, okay the traffic is a nightmare and it took 2.5 hours from the airport but that’s not the hotel’s fault. Really friendly staff, cool rooftop bar and spotlessly clean. Highly recommended!
