4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Durham

  1. Book for the cheapest times: The most economical time to visit Durham is during January, February, and December, when hotel prices tend to be lower. For a fulfilling experience that allows you to appreciate the city's historical landmarks, cultural offerings, and scenic river walks, aim for at least a 2 to 3-day stay. This duration is perfect for immersing yourself in the friendly atmosphere, exploring the impressive cathedral, enjoying dining options, and discovering the vibrant culture of the university town. With its budget-friendly options, Durham offers great value for money, making it an ideal choice for those travelling on a budget.
  2. Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To discover last-minute deals for hotels in Durham, begin by exploring the DealsOpens in a new window or Last-Minute DealsOpens in a new window sections on Hotels.com, where you may find discounted rates as your travel date approaches. Consider enabling email alerts or push notifications to stay informed about flash sales and limited-time promotions, helping you seize any opportunities for savings. The Smart ShoppingOpens in a new window tool available via the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you're more likely to see the best hotel deal. If prices drop or rooms become available, you'll be notified first for your last-minute getaway.
  3. Be flexible with dates: Prices can fluctuate based on factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year, so being flexible with your travel dates may help you save on your stay at a hotel in Durham. For those in search of distinctive accommodations, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised experience and, at times, better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we’ll inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price appears to be on the higher end, we’ll recommend more budget-friendly dates, which could enhance your chances of securing a better deal.
  4. Consider your location: Hotels situated near the city centre usually tend to be pricier, but thanks to Durham's excellent public transport connections, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel located a bit further out that remains well connected. For those keen to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often great value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
