Beware of the 'not working' card machine...
I have waited several days since return before completing review to let my anger subside. We booked about eight weeks before departure. I was slightly surprised to find just one nights money being taken on my card in advance, but didn't think much more about it.. When we arrived we went to pay the balance and I presented my card. "Oh the machine is not working this afternoon because of the weather, you will have to pay cash". I demurred but it was clear that they would only accept cash, I was even told where the cash machine was. I have a lot of experience of judging people from my career and it was clear to me that this was a scenario played out at every opportunity. It means of course that the hotel avoids the charge they pay on card payments. It also means if like us you budget carefully in terms of Euros bought in advance that you have to pay another currency exchange charge to pay the hotel in cash. I was angry be cause I do not like being taken for a fool. In addition, the manner of the lady working on reception both my wife and I found immensely irritating. If it is cash only then this should advertised in advance. If cards are accepted (there is a cards accepted sign up near reception) then this should honoured even if prices are raised by a few %to cover it.. Location is very good for access to the city but property is old and our room was OK but the bathroom needs upgrading. Also property is above cafes and there is no sign downstairs showing the entrance

The hotel was in a very convenient place for visiting the old part of Lisbon and the castle

Decent hotel
The hotel was what I expected - basic but clean and comfortable. The location is great. The person at reception was lovely and really helpful when I had no lighting in my room. However, I was surprised to find I had to pay a "singles" supplement upon check-in, which was not mentioned at time of booking. Moreover, the hotel did not take credit card nor could it give change, so I ended up paying slightly more than agreed.

A curious mix
Odd place, tired but with personality. Loved the mix of art - bare breasted women and Virgin of Fatima's. Very central to old city and newer parts, opposite the cathedral and very cheap. Great location. This place is not luxury though. Old disused fridge in room, and a bidet! Thin walls - sounds of sweet love-making at 1 am. Dilapidated shared bathrooms, toilet seats that don't stay up when meant to and fall down when not, bits of shower door come off when it opens. Very basic breakfast in room without windows perched on benches, decent bread and coffee (but not much more). Night receptionist had difficulty smiling and clearly had better things to do, day time staff seemed a a little happier. I reckon for the price it's worth a go.

I have booked a few times with you and always been pleased...not this time......A noisy room a loads of stairs to get to the room,. a dismal breakfast in a poky little room with no windows, AND,,, then I find on my way back it is on for half the price I paid. really I am not pleased. I am surprised you have it on your books.
